RATIONALE: The term cystic breast lesions is a sonographic diagnosis, which can be categorized as simple, complicated or complex. The complex cysts are deemed as having a low risk of breast cancer. The occurrence of a breast carcinoma within a breast cyst is rare. These tumors are usually papillary adenocarcinomas arising from the wall of macrocysts of the breast. The clinicopathologic course in seven patients is reviewed. Modified radical mastectomy has provided satisfactory surgical management and is the recommended therapy.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease is associated with cysts in many organs including the liver, pancreas, lungs, spleen, ovaries, testes, thyroid, and uterus. However, there is no report, to our knowledge, of cystic changes of the breast along with this disease.
