A series of novel carbocations were generated by low-temperature protonation of substituted benzo[c]phenanthrenes, B[c]Phs, and their charge delocalization pathways were elucidated by NMR on the basis of the magnitude of Deltadelta13C values. It has been shown that the protonation regioselectivity is strongly controlled by methoxy and hydroxyl substituents, whose directive effects override methyl substitution effects. Haloacetic acids (HAAs) are among the most common drinking water disinfection byproducts (DBPs) and are of widespread concern due to their potential carcinogenicity and reproductive health risks. During routine chemical analyses of the stalked ibliform barnacle Chaetolepas calcitergum Buckeridge & Newman 2006, peaks of more than 7% (by dry mass) of bromine were detected. This is of concern since these chemicals can perturb development and cause adverse health effects. Based on the 6th China Total Diet Study (CTDS) conducted in 2016-2019, the occurrence of both legacy and novel brominated flame retardants (BFRs) was measured in animal-derived foods collected across China. Three kinds of legacy brominated flame retardants (BFRs), including eight polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) congeners, tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), and three hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) isomers, were analyzed in 105 human milk samples collected in 2018 from Beijing, China. 3-Acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid is a pentacyclic triterpenoid. It is found in frankincense, which is the resin found in plants from the Boswellia genus. Single crystals of 3-acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid methanol and acetonitrile solvates were obtained from the Boswellia serrata extract. X-Ray crystal structure analysis revealed the coexistence of a brominated derivative, 3-acetyl-11-keto-12-bromo-β-boswellic acid. Endogenous bromine has been found to be raised during lithium treatment, and it has been suggested that it may augment the therapeutic effect of lithium. Our findings in a study of 12 patients and 12 controls support this contention. Electroencephalographic effects of bromine, vanadium and aluminium were studied--higher bromine and vanadium levels were associated with irregular cortical activity. Electroencephalographic abnormalities were associated with more side-effects of lithium.
