Simultaneous Enchondroma and Osteochondroma in the Hand: A Case Report.

The simultaneous occurrence of enchondroma and osteochondroma in the hand is exceptionally rare, with only a few cases documented in the literature. We report a unique presentation in a 12-year-old female patient with both lesions in the second metacarpal. Enchondromas, the most common primary bone tumors of the hand, are often asymptomatic but may cause deformities or pathologic fractures. Osteochondromas, conversely, are rare in the hand, may cause functional impairment or cosmetic concerns. Radiological evaluation, including X-ray, CT, and MRI, was cru-cial for diagnosis, revealing distinct…

[A painful ring finger following minimal trauma].

We present the case of a 24-year-old man with a painful ring finger following minimal trauma during a handball game. The X-ray showed a pathological fracture of the proximal phalanx due to an enchondroma. Conservative treatment was initiated, consisting of cast immobilisation for 6 weeks. After 8 months of follow-up, the X-ray revealed that the bone marrow cavity was almost completely filled with bone tissue.

A rare case of epiphyseal chondromyxoid fibroma of the proximal tibia.

Chondromyxoid fibroma is an uncommon benign cartilaginous tumor of the bone. It occurs most frequently in the metaphysis of long tubular bones, and an epiphyseal location is exceedingly rare. We present here an unusual case of a chondromyxoid fibroma that occurred in the epiphysis of the proximal tibia with an open growth plate. MR imaging findings of this tumor, which has, to the best of our knowledge, never been described in an epiphyseal location, makes the present case unique.

Case report: calcification within aneurysmal bone cyst.

Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) usually affects older children or young adults. The radiological appearance is of a purely osteolytic expansile metaphyseal lesion with thinned out cortex and internal septations. We present a case of ABC in a 5-year-old girl which showed internal calcification and was initially diagnosed as enchondroma. However, pathological examination revealed typical appearance of ABC with large area of dystrophic calcification.

Three select subungual pathologies: subungual exostosis, subungual osteochondroma, and subungual hematoma.

Special attention has been given to the differences between subungual exostosis and subungual osteochondroma. Once a diagnosis has been made and symptoms persist, complete excision of the lesion with curettage of the base is the treatment of choice for both conditions. Subungual hematoma is an exquisitely painful condition that usually results from trauma, but may also be caused by systemic pathology, medication and drug reactions, and aging. Prompt decompression will significantly reduce pain and further damage to the nail bed and matrix. Radiographs must be taken because of the high incidenc…

[Chondromyxoid fibroma: radiologic and radioisotope aspects].

Chondromyxoid fibroma is a relatively rare benign bone tumor whose histologic and radiologic patterns are well known. In this article, we describe a 16-year-old boy with such a tumor in his left tibia. Scintigraphically, this tumor is represented by a "doughnut sign". This aspect, though not pathognomonic, has been reported sporadically in a few diseases: osteoporosis circumscripta cranii, angioblastic meningioma, cranial coccidioidomycosis, and aseptic necrosis of frontal bone. Because of their sites, it is easy to reject these diagnoses in our patient. The most pertinent differential diagnos

Synovial chondromatosis in association with Turner's syndrome: a case report.

A unique case of Turner's syndrome in association with synovial chondromatosis suggests that other cases with this association should be investigated to determine whether the occurrence of the 2 disease processes is coincidental.

Management of intracavernous tumours: an 11-year experience.

Seventy-one patients with tumours involving the cavernous sinus (CS) were operated upon between 1979 and 1989. Fifty-four patients underwent a direct approach to the CS. The average age of these latter patients was 47 (9-69) years. The lesions included 51 benign tumours (26 meningiomas, 16 [7 invasive] pituitary adenomas, 3 trigeminal neurinomas, one chordoma, one chondroma, one craniopharyngioma, one epidermoid tumour, and one cavernous haemangioma), and 3 malignant tumours (one chondrosarcoma, one adenoid cystic carcinoma and one metastatic adenocarcinoma). Dissecting tumour away from the ca…

Enchondroma of the scaphoid: a case report.

Enchondroma represents a common bone tumor of the hand. The scaphoid is a rare location. We report the case of a scaphoid enchondroma presenting as chronic wrist pain following a relatively minor trauma. The diagnosis was suggested by radiological study and then confirmed by histological study after biopsy. Enucleation and vascularized bone graft with osteosynthesis provided good results. The clinical, radiological and therapeutic aspects of this rare condition are discussed.

Intracytoplasmic eosinophilic hyaline globules in cartilaginous neoplasms: a surgical, pathological, ultrastructural, and electron probe x-ray microanalytic study.

Hyaline globules (HGs), spherical intracytoplasmic eosinophilic droplets, have been associated with a variety of conditions, including hepatocellular carcinoma, lung adenocarcinoma, and Kaposi's sarcoma, but they have not been described in cartilaginous tumors. In specimens of 60 cartilaginous neoplasms we found that 22 of 33 chondrosarcomas (67%), eight of 16 enchondromas (50%), and three of seven soft tissue chondromas (43%) exhibited HGs. HGs were seen more commonly in low grade chondrosarcoma (70%) and were relatively rare in high grade chondrosarcoma (25%). No HGs were identified in three…
