A total of 123 male viscose rayon workers who were exposed to carbon disulfide, and an additional 67 workers who were not exposed to any toxic agent in the working environment, underwent a thorough ophthalmological examination. The relationship between exposure and ophthalmological results was analyzed with univariate and multivariate methods. The most striking findings were strong associations between exposure and the 100-HUE color vision score and excess of microaneurysms in the exposed group. The current threshold limit value appeared to protect against these effects.

This work introduces the semi-quantitative optical test system for determining the antioxidant capacity (AOC) of various substances using coordination compounds as model oxidizers. Simultaneous detection of multiple synthetic dyes in food additives presents a challenge. A high-throughput UPLC-Q-OMS method with purification-free extraction was developed for the simultaneous detection of 30 synthetic dyes across six categories in various foods. The results showed satisfactory separation of the dyes was achieved using a phenyl column, acetonitrile, and a 5 mmol/L ammonium acetate mobile phase. A squarylium (SQ) dye was synthesized by the reaction between squaric acid and 2,3,3-trimethylindolenine and its anion sensing properties were investigated using absorption and emission spectroscopy.
