We report here a case of true fetal mosaicism for both trisomy 15 and monosomy-X; the aberrant cell lines were initially detected at amniocentesis as low-level mosaicism (trisomy 15) and multiple-cell pseudo-mosaicism (monosomy-X). In the fetal lymphocytes, only metaphases with a normal chromosome complement were observed. After termination of the pregnancy, various fetal biopsies revealed both trisomy 15 and monosomy-X mosaicism, whereas, at autopsy, no external or internal abnormalities could be detected in the fetus. In this study, we investigated how to prenatally diagnose X-linked chronic granulomatous disease (X-CGD) effectively and accurately. Percutaneous umbilical blood sampling was conducted in the 22nd week of pregnancy. NADPH oxidase activity and gp91(phox) protein expression of neutrophils were analysed using flow cytometry. We report a case of homozygous alpha-thalassaemia with hydrops fetalis presenting at 22 weeks of gestation. In utero exchange transfusion was performed with maternal blood at 23 weeks. 25 weeks and 29 weeks of gestation. The fetus was delivered at 29 weeks of gestation without significant neonatal complication. Post-transfusion haemoglobin pattern after transfusion suggested that a total haematocrit of 0.52 may be the desired post-exchange transfusion haematocrit to aim for and the total haematocrit of haemoglobin A and haemoglobin Portland dropped approximately one percent per day.

We report a female patient with congenital toxoplasmosis who presented with hydrops fetalis and cerebral abnormalities, detected on fetal ultrasound. Following prenatal treatment, the hydrops fetalis resolved and at four months of age she has normal growth and development. This case emphasizes the potential good prognosis in cases with congenital toxoplasmosis detected and treated prenatally.

The results of investigation of 908 chorion and placental biopsy in 873 pregnant women of high risk a group is presented. Fetal pathology was diagnosed with the help of "direct" method and shot-term method of culture of chorionic villi and placenta, as well as method of long-term fetal lymphocyte cultures. The efficiency of invasive methods of prenatal diagnosis, and their role in decrease of perinatal disease and mortality was confirmed.

A case of non immune hidrops foetalis caused by severe hemolytic anemia secondary to a familiar thalassemia is presented. Target cells for the human parvovirus B19 include erythroid progenitors located in the bone marrow in adults and in the liver in fetuses of 12 to 30 weeks gestational age. The main manifestations of fetal parvovirus B19 infection seem to be related to lysis of the erythroid progenitors which causes non immune hydrops fetalis with severe anemia, congestive heart failure, generalized edema and death. The exact incidence of human parvovirus B19 infection during pregnancy remains unclear.

Sex chromosome mosaicism in amniotic fluid cells poses a serious dilemma in prenatal diagnosis. Chromosome analysis of 56 primary clones of amniocytes revealed three distinct cell lines.
