BACKGROUND: Early-onset neonatal sepsis (EOS) is a critical condition primarily caused by maternal-fetal transmission of bacterial pathogens during delivery, with Escherichia coli and Group B Streptococcus being the most prevalent. We report seven cases of endocarditis due to nontoxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae that occurred between October 1990 and September 1991.
