Establishing a skincare routine that keeps babies' skin healthy remains a challenge for midwives and parents, since up to 50% of babies suffer from at least one episode of nappy rash at some time. Nappy rash is an irritant contact dermatitis caused by the interaction of several factors, particularly the prolonged contact of the skin with urine and faeces, which makes the skin more prone to disruption through friction with the nappy. OBJECTIVES: Both cannabinoids and psychoactive substances from the group of stimulants can have a significant effect on the induction, course and treatment of severe mental illness. They also can be treated as self-medication. Many patients feel subjective benefits of using psychoactive substances in the areas of social competence, to cope with side effects of neuroleptics, stress accompanying mental illness or to control its symptoms. In this article, the author presents an overview of normal skin and a description of perineal skin injury. The focus is to identify the goals for treatment for persons with frequent diarrhea or fecal incontinence as it relates to their perineal skin care. Specific algorithms for acute care and ambulatory settings are defined, and two case studies are presented. The treatment goals include evaluation of and recommendations for reviewing and choosing perineal skin products.

UNLABELLED: The diaper environment increases the coefficient of skin friction and compromises the function of the stratum corneum. We report 14 infants younger than 2 years of age with psoriasis vulgaris in order to call attention to the existence of infantile psoriasis. Three of the patients were noted to have psoriasis in the neonatal period; the onset may have been prenatal in one. In 13 of the 14 patients the site of onset was determined by the isomorphic effect (Köbners phenomenon). Although nail pitting is usually said to be infrequent in childhood psoriasis, 11 (79%) of our patients had typical psoriatic nail changes. Psoriasis must be considered in the differential diagnosis of papulosquamous disorders in infants.

Good skin care has two overall goals: to support and maintain healthy stratum corneum function and to help restore barrier function perturbed by disease processes or injuries. In this article, we discuss the special attention that is required in the initial skin care of newborns, and we address what measures, beyond the basic skin care principles, are required for patients with conditions such as atopic dermatitis, acne, contact and allergic dermatitis, and diaper rash.

Certain types of moisture can cause debilitating damage to the skin. Terms such as perineal dermatitis, diaper rash, incontinence-associated dermatitis, or moisture-associated skin damage describe some of the conditions caused by moisture from wound drainage, fecal and/or urinary incontinence, and perspiration. It is important for clinicians to correctly diagnose and to locally treat the cause of skin damage, as well as promote appropriate cleaning techniques, to keep patients' skin healthy.

We present a case of a 2-month-old female with an acute onset and rapidly progressing diffuse erythroderma involving the scalp, face, neck folds, torso, and groin. She had a history of seborrheic and diaper dermatitis and developed a worsening rash that initially appeared as a "blister-like" lesion on the cheek. Granuloma gluteale infantum is a benign disorder with the clinical appearance of "granulomatous" nodules involving the diaper area. It is an uncommon disorder considered a complication of primary irritant diaper dermatitis. A 6-month-old boy with reddish-purple oval nodules located on the right inguinal fold and right buttock diagnosed as granuloma gluteale infantum is presented. A contributing factor in our patient could be a primary irritant dermatitis or a preexisting candidial infection. The name granuloma gluteale infantum is a misnomer since no granulomas are found in these lesions.
