This project sought to identify adolescent outcome expectancies for gambling and to evaluate their relation to gambling behavior among a sample of urban adolescents. The best approach to medical management of early Parkinson's disease remains controversial. Recent studies suggest that early use of MAO-B inhibitors may improve long-term outcome. Few studies have evaluated rates of gambling participation and problems in older adults. This study recruited 492 adults aged 65 years and older from bingo sites (n = 132) and senior centers (n = 360). This case illustrates how treatment with divalproex sodium, an agent approved for use as an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer, led to a reduction in overt aggression, diminished impulsivity, and improved functional status in a patient with vascular dementia. Improved receptivity to care and reduced hostility also led to an increased quality of life for the family caregivers.
