Paediatric laparoscopic orchidopexy as a novel mentorship: Training model.

BACKGROUND: Although Laparoscopy is becoming a standard procedure in management of pediatric urology disorders, but its widespread use still limited. This can be attributed mainly to difficulty in acquiring such specialized technique, especially by post graduate practicing urologist. Thus, we herein evaluate the impact of condensed laparoscopic training programme in children hospital with the aim to analyze the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic orchidopexy in training basic laparoscopic skills. The aim of this study was to review experience as a mentor in training laparoscopic skills thro

Prehospital Pediatric Respiratory Distress and Airway Management Training and Education: An NAEMSP Position Statement and Resource Document.

Although pediatric airway and respiratory emergencies represent high-acuity situations, the ability of EMS clinicians to effectively manage these patients is hampered by infrequent clinical exposure and shortcomings in pediatric-specific education. Cognitive gaps in EMS clinicians' understanding of the differences between pediatric and adult airway anatomy and respiratory physiology and pathology, variability in the training provided to EMS clinicians, and decay of the psychomotor skills necessary to safely and effectively manage pediatric patients experiencing respiratory emergencies collecti

Factors contributing to successful interorganizational collaboration: the case of CS2day.

Continuing medical education's transition from an emphasis on dissemination to changing clinical practice has made it increasingly necessary for CME providers to develop effective interorganizational collaborations. Although interorganizational collaboration has become commonplace in most sectors of government, business, and academia, our review of the literature and experience as practitioners and researchers suggest that the practice is less widespread in the CME field. The absence of a rich scholarly literature on establishing and maintaining interorganizational collaborations to provide co

Knowledge Level and Educational Needs of Turkish Oncology Nurses Regarding the Genetics of Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer.

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated Turkish oncology nurses' knowledge and educational needs regarding genetics of hereditary breast and ovarian cancers. METHOD: An online survey was used to collect data from 104 Turkish oncology nurses. RESULTS: The mean level of knowledge in oncology genetics was 6.74 ± 3.85. The majority of nurses (78.7%) were aware of the fact that family history of ovarian or breast cancer is an important risk factor for ovarian or breast cancer; however, a much smaller percentage (25.5%) understood that BRCA1 mutations in women can be transferred by the father. The majori

Continuing Professional Development in the Artificial Intelligence Era.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping clinical work in ways that unsettle the foundational assumptions of continuing professional development (CPD). Existing CPD frameworks-Kirkpatrick, Miller, Moore, and the Five Domains-presume that clinicians are the primary generators of knowledge, the center of agency, and the drivers of performance and outcomes. AI disrupts this logic. Systems that draft clinical reasoning, modulate workflows, and influence decision pathways no longer function as passive tools but as active contributors to clinical judgment. As agency becomes distributed across human

Syncope: Evaluation and Differential Diagnosis.

Syncope is an abrupt and transient loss of consciousness caused by cerebral hypoperfusion. It accounts for 1% to 1.5% of emergency department visits, resulting in high hospital admission rates and significant medical costs. Syncope is classified as neurally mediated, cardiac, and orthostatic hypotension. Neurally mediated syncope is the most common type and has a benign course, whereas cardiac syncope is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Patients with presyncope have similar prognoses to those with syncope and should undergo a similar evaluation. A standardized approach to syn

CE: Long-term outcomes after repair of congenital heart defects: part 1.

Many congenital heart defects can be repaired, but long-term monitoring is often required to forestall possible complications. This two-part article reviews 10 common congenital heart defects, their repairs, and their common long-term outcomes, along with the implications for nurses in both cardiac and noncardiac settings. Here, in part 1, the author reviews six defects: bicuspid aortic valve, atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, atrioventricular septal defect, coarctation of the aorta, and pulmonic stenosis.

Congenital melanocytic nevi: where are we now? Part II. Treatment options and approach to treatment.

Treatment of congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) is generally undertaken for 2 reasons: (1) to reduce the chances of cutaneous malignant melanoma and (2) for cosmetic reasons. Over the past century, a large number of treatments for CMN have been described in the literature. These include excision, dermabrasion, curettage, chemical peels, radiation therapy, cryotherapy, electrosurgery, and lasers. Only low-level evidence supporting these approaches is available, and large randomized controlled trials have not been published. This article explores therapeutic controversies and makes recommendation

Locomotor treadmill training for children with cerebral palsy.

Due to a rise in the incidence of cerebral palsy, this diagnosis is increasingly encountered by orthopaedic nurses. The majority of children with cerebral palsy have difficulty with ambulation. Because ambulation is important for orthopaedic and cardiopulmonary development, as well as independence with activities of daily living, the achievement of ambulation is an important therapeutic goal for these children. Locomotor treadmill training is a relatively new method that is used to teach children how to walk and make their ambulation more efficient. This article reviews the underlying principl

Diagnosis and management of lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

Lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB) can present as an acute and life-threatening event or as chronic bleeding, which might manifest as iron-deficiency anemia, fecal occult blood or intermittent scant hematochezia. Bleeding from the small bowel has been shown to be a distinct entity, and LGIB is defined as bleeding from a colonic source. Acute bleeding from the colon is usually less dramatic than upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage and is self-limiting in most cases. Several factors might contribute to increased mortality, a severe course of bleeding and recurrent bleeding, including advanced

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a motor neuron disease with evidence of both anterior horn cell and corticospinal tract degeneration. The incidence of ALS is 1 to 2.5 cases per 100,000 population and the disease occurs primarily in adult life. The etiology of sporadic ALS remains unknown, although 5 to 10% of cases are familial. The diagnosis of ALS requires the presence of both upper and lower motor neuron findings and progressive motor dysfunction. Several theories regarding the pathogenesis of ALS have emerged including glutamate excitotoxicity, free radical oxidative stress, neurofi
