The most effective treatment of late mycosis fungoides is total skin electron beam therapy. The beam at the Hammersmith Hospital in London has been adapted to treat these patients. Patients with advanced disease who have failed more conservative methods of treatment are irradiated. The electron beam is modified by the use of carbon and copper scatterers to produce an 80 percent depth dose at 5.5, 8 and 11.5 millimeters below the skin surface. Detailed information on the structure and composition of gallstones was obtained using an electron probe microanalyser in conjunction with the other methods. Gallstones were studied layer by layer without greatly disturbing the arrangement of the materials present. The component cells of peripheral lymphoid tissue have been divided into the lymphocyte and plasma cell lines, mononuclear phagocytic cells, dendritic "reticular cells", the reticular (supporting) cells and endothelial cells, and it is suggested that this system of cells should collectively be referred to as the lymphoreticular monoclear phagocyte system or LRMPS.
