Antibodies against Fasciola hepatica were detected in serum and individual milk samples of dairy cattle using an ELISA. Percentage positivity (PP) values in milk samples were related to serum PP values and were not influenced by days into lactation. BACKGROUND: Autoantibodies directed against desmoplakin (Dp) I and II have recently been characterized in a subset of patients with severe erythema multiforme (EM), a recurrent inflammatory skin disease with a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations. No data were obtained to suggest that the form of the immunogen (native versus recombinant) influenced the antigenic specificity of the mabs produced. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: In order to build panels of IgA deficient blood donors, an assay is described that is sensitive, inexpensive and easily adaptable to the automated sample processors and turnaround times of blood banks.
DESIGN AND METHODS: We developed a two-step enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) carried out in microwell plates coated with rabbit anti-human IgA antibody. Captured IgA was revealed with the same antibody conjugated to horseradish-peroxidase. The assay was adapted to the automatic pipetting system and ELISA processors used in routine blood donor screening.

A total of 81 infertile women, who had been referred for diagnostic loparoscopy, were tested for the presence of antibodies to Mycoplasma hominis and T-mycoplasma. Out of 81, 30 had tubal adhesions and 51 had unilateral/bilateral tubal blockage. Antibodies to M. hominis were found in 21/30 (70%) and 14/51 (27.45%) women, antibodies to T-mycoplasma in 12/20 (40% and 39/51 (76.47%) women with tubal disorder. The prevalence of Brucella antibodies in settled Fulani cattle herds in Kaduna State, Nigeria, was determined by using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique.
