Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD) have been recognized to be part of the continuum of TS. Neuralgia of the saphenous nerve (SN) is a rare clinical syndrome simulating a vascular disorder of the lower extremities. The auditory brain-stem responses (ABRs) of 38 patients with acoustic neuroma (AN) were recorded pre-operatively and evaluated with regard to pathological deviations from the normal. A 15 year old patient developed ataxia 2 weeks after an upper respiratory infection. Absent reflexes, external ophthalmoplegia, bilateral ptosis, isochoric mydriasis and week photomotor reflexes (Bell's phenomenon) were noted. A slight increase in protein but not cell content of the CSF was observed. The authors examined SEP in a group of 54 patients with the clinical diagnosis of SM. The sensitivity of the test in SEP of the median nerve was 68%, in SEP of the tibial nerve 78%. The effects of a standard 3 minutes' hyperventilation on the full-field pattern-reversal visual evoked potential (VEP) were studied in 33 normal subjects, 30 definite multiple sclerosis patients and in twenty-five patients with abnormal VEPs due to either tumourous compression of the anterior visual pathways or optic atrophy of other origin. SEPs are a useful, reliable means of assessing somatosensory systems and gaining indirect information about motor systems in children. The factors of complex maturational changes in the CNS and body growth complicate the interpretation of SEPs. Thus, full understanding of factors that affect normative data in infants and children enhance clinical interpretation. SEPs in infancy and childhood in many clinical conditions have been useful in diagnosis and prognosis. The full extent of the clinical applications of SEPs is yet to be explored.

Isolated posterior femoral cutaneous nerve (PFCN) entrapment has only rarely been described in the literature and never documented electrophysiologically. Evoked sacral potentials were used to study the bulbo-cavernous reflex in 85 patients with true premature ejaculation (TPE) and in 52 subjects as a control group. In the perineal and perianal recordings the amplitudes of the evoked responses (means +/- SD) were 70 +/- 91.1 microV and 35.6 +/- 36 microV in the TPE patients, and 39.2 +/- 36.8 microV and 26 +/- 21.6 microV in the controls, respectively. Forty patients with MS initially tested in our laboratory were recalled for repeat PSVEP testing approximately two years later. Twelve normal controls were tested in a similar manner approximately two years apart. The PSVEP positive peak latency changed little in the 24 control eyes (mean 1.4 msec, range 0-6) over the study interval. Most MS patient eyes also showed little change in PSVEP latency over the two year study interval. Fifty-eight eyes changed 8 msec or less. Electroretinograms (P-ERG) and cortical potentials (P-VECP) evoked by checkerboard patterns were examined in patients with defects of the ganglion cell and nerve fiber layers due to glaucoma. Only a few patients exhibited a prolonged latency in the P-VECP, whereas in the P-ERG all patients with papillary and visual field defects revealed a significantly attenuated amplitude. Since there is a substantial fluctuation in the assessment of papillary excavation and visual field, the P-ERG offers a further means of evaluating and follow-up of retinal function in glaucoma patients.

The clinical outcome in 74 children at risk for audiologic or neurologic sequelae of a variety of perinatal insults was correlated with brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) in the newborn period.
