Adaptation and psychometric evaluation of the Natural Disasters Picture System (NDPS) to the Spanish population.

INTRODUCTION: Climate change is causing an increase in natural disasters and extreme weather events. This threat is impacting the mental health of those who experience it. However, empirical research in the Spanish context is limited by the lack of culturally adapted tools. METHODS: In this study, we have adapted and validated with a Spanish sample composed by 73 participants the Natural Disasters Picture System (NDPS). The methodology incorporated Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Mixed Linear Models (MLM) with intercepts for subjects and stimuli, and predictive classification using Machine

The discovery of wheat-derived anticaries peptides by a ML-based computational strategy.

This study proposes a machine learning-based peptide screening strategy for identifying wheat-derived peptides with anti-caries potential. By integrating multiple feature descriptors and algorithms (Random Forest, XGBoost), we constructed a Screening Funnel Model and identified a wheat-derived peptide AP-2 (FPVTWRWWKWW) as the prioritized candidate. Experimental validation demonstrated that AP-2 exhibits potent antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans (MIC = 4 μM), achieving rapid bactericidal effects through bacterial membrane disruption, and significantly inhibits biofilm formatio

Machine learning based finite element analysis for personalized prediction of pressure injury risk in patients with spinal cord injury.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Patients with spinal cord injury (SCI), are prone to pressure injury (PI) in the soft tissues of buttocks. Early prediction of PI holds the potential to reduce the occurrence and progression of PI. This study proposes a machine learning model to predict soft tissue stress/strain and evaluate PI risk in SCI patients. METHODS: Based on the standard database from parametric models of buttock, the biomechanical response of soft tissues and risk factors affecting PI were analyzed. A comprehensive assessment of multiple machine-learning methods was performed to predict the

Instant detection of extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing bacteria from the urine of patients using infrared spectroscopy combined with machine learning.

Antibiotics are considered the most effective treatment against bacterial infections. However, most bacteria have already developed resistance to a broad spectrum of commonly used antibiotics, mainly due to their uncontrolled use. Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria are an essential class of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. It is of extreme urgency to develop a method that can detect ESBL-producing bacteria rapidly for the effective treatment of patients with bacterial infectious diseases. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microscopy is a sensitive method that can rap
