A central odontogenic fibroma is a rare benign tumor composed of mature fibrous connective tissue with variable amounts of odontogenic epithelium. It appears at similar rates in the maxilla and mandible. In the maxilla, it usually occurs anterior to the molars. Radiographically, central odontogenic fibroma commonly presents as a multilocular or unilocular radiolucency with a distinct border. This paper reports a case of an aggressive central odontogenic fibroma involving the right posterior maxilla of a 53-year-old man. Radiographs showed an extensive soft tissue mass involving the entire righ…

INTRODUCTION: Primary ovarian leiomyoma is a rare benign tumor of the ovary seen in women between 20 and 65 years old. Clinical, ultasonographic and tumor marker data remain the best preoperative approach currently available for ovarian tumours. Only pathological examination can establish the diagnosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a case of unilateral, ovarian leiomyoma. The abdomino-pelvic Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a left adnexial mass. A hysterectomy without adnexal preservation was performed, and histological examination revealed a leiomyoma

An ossifying fibroma (OF) is a type of benign fibro-osteoma that rarely involves the sinonasal cavity. Recent developments in endoscopic sinus surgery allow the removal of large benign tumors from the nasal cavity and sinuses. Here, the athors report the case of a 48-year-old female who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery under general anesthesia to completely remove a large OF involving the sphenoid sinus and nasal cavity. No recurrence was noted during the recent 3-year follow-up. Endoscopic resection of OFs is an excellent choice for very experienced surgeons, affording the advantages of dir…

RATIONALE: Chondromyxoid fibroma (CMF) is a rare form of benign bone tumor and easily misdiagnosed as fibrosarcoma. Hence, to explore the clinical manifestations, diagnostic tests, and therapeutic procedures for temporal bone cartilage myxoid fibroma, it is important to optimize patient treatment and avoid overtreatment. Previous research has discussed cases of CMF, but this paper presents a systematic, complete, and comprehensive introduction of this disease based on this case and related literature.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 52-year-old male patient presented with pain in his right ear for 2 year…

Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (JPOF) is a rare tumor that occurs in maxillary sinus or orbit. Complete removal is required due to the aggressive and locally destructive nature. It is hard to distinguish from psammomatoid meningioma in cranial lesion and to remove completely. The authors are presenting a case of 26-year-old male with JPOF on skull base and report this case with review of literature.

Solitary fibrous tumors ofthe pleura (SFTP) are uncommon. They tend to be discovered incidentally or during workup for unexplained cough or paraneoplastic effects. It is important to recognize the entityand perform a surgical excision because of the possibility of subsequent malignant transformation and local compressive effects. We present the case of a SFTP discovered on chest imaging. Our patient had surgical excision with good response. A review of the literature is also presented.

BACKGROUND: Head and neck ossifying fibroma (OF) is a rare, benign, locally aggressive, fibro-osseous tumor. The mandible is the most common site of involvement, followed by the maxilla, and, less frequently, the sinonasal cavities, orbit, skull base, and calvarium. In this study, we aimed to expand our understanding of this entity by presenting a case series of OF that involved the maxilla and sinonasal tract.
METHODS: A multicenter retrospective review was performed on all the patients with a diagnosis of OF from 2004 to 2013. Data were collected with respect to age, sex, clinical presentat…

PURPOSE: Here, we report our experience in treating painful plantar fibromas with percutaneous cryoablation.
METHODS: We retrospectively identified patients with symptomatic plantar fibromas who underwent percutaneous ultrasound-guided cryoablation between June 2014 and June 2015. In total, four patients (two male, two female) with five plantar fibromas undergoing a total of seven ablation procedures were identified. Each procedure was performed under general anesthesia using a single freeze-thaw cycle. The electronic medical record, procedure reports, and pain scores from a brief pain invent…

The psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (POF) is a rare and benign fibro-osseous lesion predominantly affecting the paranasal sinuses and orbits of children and young adults. The diagnosis and management of the lesion remains challenging. The present study reported a rare case of a large POF in a 39-year-old male patient. The patient had a 30 year history of a slowly growing tumor and this had resulted in right craniofacial deformity, as well as right lateral displacement of the eye ball. Due to the large tumor size, surgical removal of the lesion was the predominant treatment. At 5 months after co…

INTRODUCTION: Juvenile ossifying fibromas are uncommon benign tumors. Their aggressiveness added to their high tendency to recur, provoke real diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for the dental practitioner and make a postoperative follow-up over the years indispensable.
CASE REPORT: In this report, we present a case of a seven-year-old girl presented with a swelling in the face at the upper right maxillary region. After clinical, radiological, and histopathological examinations the diagnosis of trabecular juvenile ossifying fibroma was made. The lesion was surgically excised and followed u…

Ossifying fibroma involving the sinonasal tract is an extremely rare occurrence. We are reporting a case of ossifying fibroma in the left maxillary sinus in a 19-year-old female who presented with a mass in the left cheek and nasal obstruction. On examination, the swelling in the left cheek seemed to originate from the left maxilla and was smooth and bony hard. Patient underwent detailed radiological and image guided cytopathological investigations. Depending on the results of these tests complete surgical excision of the mass was done. Histopathological evaluation of the excised mass revealed…

Irritation fibroma is one of the most frequent occurrences in benign soft tissue growth of the oral cavity. Chronic irritation and trauma are often identified as the causative factors. Recently, we experienced an unusual case of multiple irritation fibromas that occurred in the suture points after dorsum linguae biopsy. To the best of our knowledge, it has not been reported. Hence, the rare case was described and several possible causes were discussed.

Central ossifying fibroma (COF) is a benign osteogenic neoplasm, with fibrous tissue and calcifications similar to bone, which has the clinical presentation of an asymptomatic bulging. It is more common in the mandibular premolar and molar region, in the third and fourth decades of life, and in women more frequently than men. Surgical removal is the treatment of choice and additional reconstruction is essential due to the functional and esthetic problems faced by the patient. This article describes the surgical treatment and subsequent reconstruction in a 22-year-old man with COF and an expans…

Mucocele is a benign lesion occurring in the buccal mucosa as a result of the rupture of a salivary gland duct and consequent outpouring of mucin into soft tissue. It is usually caused by a local trauma, although in many cases the etiology is uncertain. Mucocele is more commonly found in children and young adults, and the most frequent site is the lower inner portion of the lips. Fibroma, on the other hand, is a benign tumor of fibrous connective tissue that can be considered a reactionary connective tissue hyperplasia in response to trauma and irritation. They usually present hard consistency…

Chondromyxoid fibroma (CMF) is a rare, benign cartilaginous tumor, comprising less than 1% of primary bone tumors, and usually occurs in the metaphysis of a long tubular bone around the knee. We report a rare case of CMF of the rib. The patient was a 25-year-old man who visited the hospital for left upper back pain. Roentgenography revealed an 8-cm mass in the left upper lung field; computed tomography revealed a large multicystic tumor with aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC)-like features in the posterior mediastinum. ABCs are also a rare benign tumor representing 2.5% of primary bone tumors, and mos…

The non-ossifying fibroma (NOF) is a benign, non-neoplastic lesion most commonly seen in the metaphyses of the long bones in children. While rare, the NOF has been reported in the mandible. The NOF in the extra-gnathic skeleton has a characteristic radiographic appearance, is typically asymptomatic and has a variable histologic make-up. Correlation of the radiographic appearance, clinical presentation and histopathology allows for differentiation of the NOF from odontogenic and non-odontogenic cysts and tumors. We report a new case of this interesting entity and review the radiographic, clinic…
