This paper describes a calorimetric study of the association of a series of seven fluorinated benzenesulfonamide ligands (C6H(n)F(5-n)SO2NH2) with bovine carbonic anhydrase II (BCA). The in vitro antibacterial activity of Ro 23-6240 was assessed and compared with those of ciprofloxacin and beta-lactam antibiotics including several oral compounds against members of the family Enterobacteriaceae (n = 130) and Pseudomonas spp. (n = 31). Results of PET studies using 18-fluorine deoxyglucose (18-FDG) in patients with large-size masses (51) are discussed. Histologically-confirmed prostate cancer was diagnosed in 36 (70.5%), benign hyperplasia--12 (23.5%) and chronic prostatitis--3(6%). 18FDG PET was conducted as whole body irradiation. Our results established its high predictive significance in identifying the scope of tumor involvement. However, the latter's potential is limited in diagnosis of primary tumor node due to low rate of glycolysis in it.

Three methods for (18)F-labeling of dimeric and tetrameric neurotensin(8-13) derivatives were evaluated with respect to the labeling yield and the required peptide amounts. Labeling using N-succinimidyl-4-[(18)F]fluorobenzoate ([(18)F]SFB) gave low radiochemical yield for the dimeric peptides. Coupling of the tetramer with [(18)F]SFB was not successful.
