Sponge Rubber Revealed Two Years After Penetrating Injury: A Case Report.

The present report illustrates a very rare case report of a foreign body granuloma of the foot associated with a 2-year period of a retained spongeous rubber foreign body after a penetrating injury. Because it appeared almost 2 years after the injury, the history of trauma was minimized, the foreign body had migrated from the plantar to the dorsal side of the foot, and the radiographic appearance resembled a malignant process, it was difficult to rule out the possibility of a malignant tumor. This case shows the weakness of magnetic resonance imaging in detecting spongeous rubber in the body.

Percutaneous extraction of metallic foreign body from pyogenic liver abscess.

We report a case of a 35-year-old male who developed a pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) secondary to a foreign body that migrated from the transverse colon into the liver. The mainstay of treatment of PLA requires removal of the foreign body, most frequently performed surgically. Few case reports exist of percutaneous removal. As our patient was hemodynamically stable at time of presentation, he underwent successful percutaneous transhepatic removal of the foreign body, avoiding any need for surgical operation.

The Neck Exploration of Penetrating Migratory Foreign Body (Crab Leg) Approaching the Right Carotid Sheath: A Rare Case From the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Foreign body ingestion is a problem that commonly presents in almost all otolaryngologic practices. However, less commonly do those foreign bodies perforate, migrate to, and impact the soft tissue of the neck while nearly invading the carotid sheath that accommodates the major neurovascular supply of the head. We report the case of a patient who had radiologic evidence of foreign body impaction and required neck exploration through an external approach to retrieve a crab leg embedded far within the deep cervical fascia.

Good syndrome, a rare disease that physicians cannot afford to overlook; case report and review of literature.

Salivary calculus is the most common cause for obstructive sialadenitis of submandibular gland. Foreign body causing obstructive sialadenitis is rare due to the anatomical and physiological factors preventing it from migrating into the duct. Our case report aims to highlight an unusual presentation of foreign body in the submandibular duct with the background of calculus formation and it's missed diagnosis in the usual radiological investigations like CT. Sialendoscopic retrieval revealed finger nail as the foreign body nidus with calculus deposits at one end of the nail.

Endoscopic Removal of an Intrauterine Device in the Left Distal Ureter.

Background: Intrauterine device (IUD) migration to the ureter is rare. Symptoms can vary, but often mimic renal colic. Radiographic imaging may aid the diagnosis of a foreign body in the ureter. Reports on endoscopic managements of a migrated IUD are not well described. Case Presentation: We present a 36-year-old woman with a history of IUD insertion. Her symptoms included hematuria, dysuria, and suprapubic/abdominal pressure. After the removal of her IUD by her gynecologist, her hematuria eventually stopped, but she presented again with persistent pain. CT revealed a radiopaque foreign body i

Delayed onset filler complication: Two case reports and literature review.

Soft tissue augmentation by fillers has become a popular cosmetic tool to offer rejuvenation and aesthetic improvement. Its results are comparable to those previously achieved only by plastic surgery. However, marked increase of filler procedures is associated with a great number of complications. Complications associated with filler injection might have early onset (within days) or late onset (after weeks to years). Delayed complications include infections, foreign body granulomatous reaction, migration of filler material, persistent discoloration, and scarring. Here we report two cases of de

Secondary choledocholithiasis caused by fish bones: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Foreign body in the common bile duct can act as a nidus for stone formation, leading to secondary choledocholithiasis. Currently there are very few reviews concerning biliary stones caused by foreign bodies; this article may offer some help for relevant situations. CASE PRESENTATION: We retrospectively analyzed the case of an 89-year-old Chinese (Han ethnicity, Asian) male patient with secondary choledocholithiasis caused by fish bones. We also present a review of the literature regarding choledocholithiasis caused by foreign bodies using "foreign body case" and "common bile duct

Early endovascular retrieval of a migrated Implanon NXT from a branch of the right pulmonary artery.

A woman in her 20s was referred to a tertiary hospital emergency department for management of a migrating Implanon NXT. The Implanon was inserted 1 week prior by the patient's general practitioner who was unable to palpate the Implanon after insertion and hence, ordered an ultrasound scan which showed an actively migrating Implanon in the left basilic vein. She had mild chest pain, and her physical examination, ECG and blood tests were unremarkable. A CT chest showed a 31 mm foreign body within the right lower lobar artery. The foreign body was removed by interventional radiology by accessing

Migration of a cutter knife blade into the abdominal aorta following penetrating chest trauma: A case report.

We report a rare case of intravascular migration of a cutter knife blade after penetrating chest trauma. A 40-year-old man presented with lower abdominal pain 3 months after an unreported occupational injury to the left anterior chest wall. Computed tomography scan revealed a plate-like foreign body embedded in the distal abdominal aorta and a localized hematoma adjacent to the cardiac apex. The blade was successfully removed during semi-emergent abdominal aortic replacement. This case highlights the potential for delayed migration of sharp intravascular foreign bodies and the importance of wh

Isolated Hemorrhagic Pericardial Effusion After Foreign Body Ingestion.

Foreign body ingestion is one of the many potential causes of esophageal perforation. In this case report we describe a man who presented with chest pain and was found to have an isolated hemorrhagic pericardial effusion secondary to occult ingestion and pericardial migration of a metallic foreign body. Surgical management was successful, and the patient has recovered well.

Treatment of malignant strictures of the cervical esophagus by endoscopic intubation using modified endoprostheses.

Endoscopic intubation has traditionally been considered unsuitable as a means of palliating cervical esophageal carcinomas involving or within 2 cm of the cricopharyngeus sphincter muscle because of the potential problems of foreign body sensation and proximal prosthesis migration. We attempted to palliate eight such patients, three of whom had tracheo-esophageal fistulas by the endoscopic placement of modified Celestin endoprostheses; the floppy funnel of the prosthesis was positioned above the cricopharyngeus in the hypopharynx. Prosthesis placement and fistula occlusion was possible in all

Fish bone-induced liver abscess secondary to duodenal perforation: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Gastrointestinal perforation caused by ingested foreign bodies typically presents with acute abdominal symptoms. However, migration of a fish bone through the posterior wall of the duodenum into the liver, resulting in liver abscess formation without abdominal pain, is extremely rare and easily misdiagnosed. This case highlights an atypical clinical presentation and important diagnostic considerations. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 56-year-old man presented with recurrent fever for 25 days without abdominal pain or gastrointestinal symptoms. Laboratory tests revealed elevated inflammatory

Pancreatitis from posterior gastric wall perforation by ingested metallic wire-case report and review of literature.

Gastric and duodenal perforation from ingested organic and inorganic foreign bodies, such as sewing needles, toothpick, metallic wires, fish and chicken bone, are uncommon incidents as most foreign bodies pass in the faeces. The perforated foreign body can at times migrate and either penetrate causing traumatic injury or incite inflammation with formation of abscesses or pseudo-tumours in the adjacent organs such as the liver and pancreas. We report one such case of pancreatitis in a child resulting from a metallic wire perforating the posterior gastric wall and penetrating the pancreas. The f

Acute pelvic pain: a ball pen may be a cause?

Chronic Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common problem in women and can be seen without any significant anatomical and functional pathology. Foreign bodies within the urinary bladder are not rare and should be considered as a cause of chronic and recurrent UTI. Intravesical foreign bodies can be self inflicted, iatrogenic or migration from adjacent organs. History in these cases is often misleading and presentation of foreign body mostly becomes apparent as suprapubic pain, dysuria with or without hematuria. We present a case of self-inflicted foreign body within the bladder of a young fema

A foreign body in the cephalic vein: A case report.

RATIONALE: Foreign bodies in the vasculature usually cause numerous problems for clinical physicians. Physician experience with diagnosing and treating non-iatrogenic foreign body migration in the venous system is insufficient. PATIENT CONCERNS: Here, we reported a 41-year-old male who had a foreign body in his left forearm following a work-related injury. DIAGNOSES: X-ray films indicated a 3-mm high-density shadow in the superficial soft tissue of the left forearm. During the operation, the foreign body was imaged by a C-arm fluoroscope to provide a more accurate location. INTERVENTIONS: T

A shrapnel migration from a peripheral vein to the right ventricle: case report.

BACKGROUND: Foreign bodies that migrate into the heart may include medical devices dislodged from their original location or, rarely, external particles (shrapnel and other foreign bodies) that penetrate the vein, remain intraluminal, and migrate via the venous blood flow to the right heart. Most reported entry sites of these external foreign bodies were in the torso, thigh, or neck; none of them penetrated through a distal extremity of the body. We report a case where shrapnel was found in the right ventricle (RV) following penetrating injury to the hand. CASE SUMMARY: An otherwise healthy 2
