Gonadal vein thrombosis is a rare but well recognized entity which predominantly occurs in the post partum period. It is also associated with gynecological malignancies, cesarean deliveries, abortions, hypercoagulability and pelvic inflammatory disease. Prompt diagnosis and treatment is warranted to avoid serious complications. We report the rare case of idiopathic, unprovoked gonadal vein thrombosis.

The molecular steps in normal sexual development were largely discovered by studying patients and animal models with disorders of sexual development (DSD). Although several types of DSD have been reported in the cat and dog, which are often strikingly similar to human DSD, these have been infrequently utilized to contribute to our knowledge of mammalian sexual development. The diagnostic accuracy of laparoscopy for impalpable testis is well recognized. However, in some cases, laparoscopic findings may be misleading, and a viable gonad may be missed with significant medico-legal implications. From January 1993 to December 2000, 202 patients with 219 impalpable testes were evaluated. Emphasis is placed on the role of 5-HT(1A) and 5-HT(2) receptors. The effect of estrogen and progesterone on the lordosis response to 5-HT receptor-selective compounds is reviewed and potential mechanisms for hormonal modulation of the 5-HT system are suggested. This is a case report of 46 xy gonadal dysgenesis (Swyer-syndrome) with bilateral androgen producing gonadoblastoma in streak gonads in a 15-year-old patient. The presenting features were: hypergonadotrophic hypogonadism, male pseudohermaphroditism and virilisation.
