We observed the mature granulocytes/monocytes derived from leukemic cells in patients with acute myeloid leukemia who present mixed lineage leukemia gene (MLL). Morphologic observation and fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis (FISH) for chromosome 11q23 abnormality were studied, and a multiplex reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis was done to identify the fusion partners with MLL. A case of Meckel's diverticulum causing intussusception in an 8-year-old boy is presented. The Meckel's diverticulum was detected by using a Tc-99m-labeled antigranulocyte monoclonal antibody MN3 (Leukoscan; Immunomedics, Morris Plains, NJ), which is under clinical evaluation for the detection of atypical appendicitis at the authors' institution. Pathologic evaluation confirmed Meckel's diverticulitis with ileal-ileal intussusception.

Lymphoid cells in decidualized uterine endometrium in early human pregnancy may be essential for successful implantation and placentation. Endometrial granulocytes are prominent in early pregnancy decidua and express some T-cell associated surface antigens (CD2+, CD7+), but little is known of their function. 111In-oxine "pure" granulocyte scanning allows an exact localisation of infiltrated bowel in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Fecal excretion of labeled granulocytes yields a good parameter of disease activity. In comparison to 111In-oxine "mixed" leukocyte scanning, this method is more specific in assessing disease activity and more sensitive in localising diseased bowel. Radiation exposure to blood cells is not as high as in "mixed" leukocyte scanning. Pure granulocytes were isolated by discontinuous density gradient centrifugation of an isolated "mixed" leukocyte fraction.

A 22-year-old man presented with mediastinal lymphoma and lymphoblastic leukemia. The leukemic cells in his blood and marrow did not stain positively with Sudan black B, peroxidase, chloroacetate esterase, or nonspecific esterase, and were considered as either lymphoblasts or stem cells. One year after the initial presentation, acute myelomonocytic leukemia developed and he died. The leukemic cells possessed the morphologic and cytochemical characteristics of both monocytes and granulocytes. Two dogs from Quebec were diagnosed with granulocytic anaplasmosis. They both displayed fever, lethargy, and anorexia. Other clinical signs included vomiting, uveitis, polyarthritis, hepatomegaly, and splenomegaly. Thrombocytopenia, anemia, and lymphopenia were identified in both cases. Cytoplasmic inclusions were observed within neutrophils, and Anaplasma phagocytophilum infection was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction in both dogs.

We report the case of a 45-year-old woman who palpated a voluminous painless lump in the superior outer quadrant of her left breast. Her past medical history revealed an acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treated and considered in remission 1 month prior to this discovery. Granulocytic sarcoma (GS), a rare extramedullary manifestation of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) has been frequently reported in the skin, orbits, gingiva, maxilla and lymph nodes. GS in the mediastinum is often mistaken as lymphoblastic lymphoma or mediastinal germ cell tumour. We presented here three cases of AML with normal cytogenetics who presented with mediastinal masses with superior vena caval (SVC) syndrome. All the three cases summarised in this write-up, received standard AML therapy but had, poor outcome.
