Health-related needs of survivors of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy: implications for health communication interventions.

BACKGROUND: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are key contributors to maternal morbidity, mortality, and future risk of cardiovascular disease. This exploratory study aimed to unearth the health-related needs of women with a reported history of HDP by inquiring about preferences for care. METHOD: Deductive, qualitative analysis was conducted of HDP survivors' retrospective 'wishes' about the care received. RESULTS: In analyzing 244 open-ended, online survey responses, we identified a taxonomy of health-related needs arising across the trajectory of HDP: clinical information, needs re

Identifying the dimensions and components influencing health literacy and self-care in endometriosis: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is a chronic, progressive inflammatory disorder affecting nearly 10% of reproductive-age women, yet it remains substantially underdiagnosed. Limited health literacy, inadequate access to reliable information, and reliance on variable-quality digital resources hinder timely symptom recognition and effective self-management. Understanding the determinants of health literacy and self-care is therefore essential to improving disease outcomes. METHODS: This scoping review followed the Arksey and O’Malley framework, refined by Levac et al., and reported in accordance with P

Examining online chat within a domain of uncertainty: the case of Asperger's syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether grounded theory can be applied as a cross-disciplinary evaluative framework for assessing health information, especially within domain-specific peer-to-peer networks. METHODS: Using a grounded-theory approach, we seek to identify recurring themes of peer-based interaction, without the ongoing management of clinical experts, as a way to determine stakeholder concerns and interests in a domain of frequent clinical uncertainty and treatment, Asperger's syndrome. RESULTS: We find that users of web-based information in such areas often report reliance on informatio

Strengthening Data Systems and Use for Infectious Outbreak Preparedness in Uganda.

BACKGROUND: The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted a critical lesson for global health systems: effective preparedness depends on timely access to reliable and interconnected health data. Across many countries, fragmented information systems limited the rapid exchange and use of data needed for outbreak detection, response, and decision-making. In Uganda, the recurrent emergence of infectious disease outbreaks, including Ebola, Marburg virus disease, and cholera, has reinforced the importance of resilient and interoperable health information systems. Although substantial progress has been made in s

Provincial Maternal and Child Information System in Inner Mongolia, China: Descriptive Implementation Study.

BACKGROUND: After the implementation of 2- and 3-child policies, the rising proportion of high-age and high-risk pregnancies put enormous pressure on maternal and child health (MCH) services for China. This populous nation with an increasing population flow imperatively required the support of large-scale information systems for management. Municipal MCH information systems were commonly applied in developed cities of eastern provinces in China. However, implementation of provincial MCH information systems in relatively low-income areas is lacking. In 2020, the implementation of a regional mat

Trusting in the online 'community': An interview study exploring internet use in young people with chronic pain.

BACKGROUND: Chronic pain in young people is prevalent in the UK. Young people are digital natives, yet there has not been any online intervention developed in a UK context to help them manage chronic pain. Key to understanding the context in which young people engage with online interventions is better understanding their internet use for chronic pain management. The overarching aim of this study was to explore young peoples' experiences of searching for information about chronic pain using the internet. This included experiences of using search engines (e.g. Google), health information websit
