Social Perceptions of Konzo Disease in Nampula Province, Mozambique.

Konzo, a neurodegenerative disease prevalent in Nampula Province, Mozambique, presents debilitating symptoms known locally as "mantakassa" ("that which breaks legs"). Although the biomedical literature attributes its cause to insufficiently processed cassava amid food insecurity, traditional narratives often cite supernatural explanations, like witchcraft. This review analyzed the existing literature to understand social perceptions of konzo, focusing on traditional leaders' perspectives and their implications for public health. It found that konzo cases cluster within families owing to shared

Patients living with obesity are subjected to constant negative evaluation by society through the process of stigmatization. Available data suggest that people with obesity experience stigma in the workplace, at school, on the Internet, and in hea

[The impact of pain-related misconceptions and beliefs on the behaviour of athletic runners].

The onset of running-related pain, whether during or after running training or during a running competition, is a very common phenomenon among runners. This type of pain is most often closely related to the occurrence of running injuries, which is why it is important how runners interpret and respond to it. This is a complex process involving several factors, but misconceptions and beliefs about pain have a significant impact on runners' decisions. It is important for doctors and physical therapists to understand how runners behave when they experience pain and what influences their decisions.
