A Cross-Sectional Study of Unstable Housing and Housing-Related Symptom Content in People With Psychosis Admitted for Inpatient Treatment: A Clinical Record Interactive Search Study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Rates of psychosis in the homeless population are markedly higher compared to the general population. Understanding potential psychological mechanisms underpinning links between psychosis and homelessness is important for the development of effective care pathways for this highly marginalised group. This study aimed to examine the housing status of a sample of people with psychosis admitted to psychiatric inpatient hospital in one UK mental health trust. We further aimed to examine the presence and relevance of symptoms which were directly related to housing (e.g., persecu…

Mental Health Service Use, Barriers, and Service Preferences During COVID-19 among Low-Income Housing and Market-Rate Housing Residents of Harlem in New York City.

This study examined the differences in mental health service use, barriers, and service preferences among 393 low-income housing (LIH) and market-rate housing (MRH) Harlem residents in New York City. One-third (34.6%) endorsed the need for professional support for psychological issues, 27.2% and 15.8% reported using counseling services and psychotropic medication, with no differences between housing types. LIH residents (21.6-38.8%) reported significantly higher use of all types of mental health resources (e.g., websites, anonymous hotlines, self-help tools) compared with MRH residents (16.1-2…

Rising House Prices, Falling Fertility? How Rising House Prices Widen Fertility Differences between Tenure Groups.

House prices rose rapidly in rich societies over the past decade, inhibiting young adults' access to affordable, family-friendly housing. Over the same period, fertility has declined. Some recent studies have examined the connection between these trends, but the individual-level mechanisms that link house prices to fertility remain underexplored. We address this research gap by using register data on the full population of the Netherlands between 2012 and 2023, a period during which house prices increased dramatically. We link variation in changes in house prices across NUTS-3 regions to yearl…

Investigation of Brucella canis and Brucella abortus Seropositivity by In-House Rapid Slide Agglutination Test and In-House ELISA in Northern Cyprus.

The incidence of Brucella canis (B. canis) in humans is unknown in Northern Cyprus. In this study, we investigated the prevalence of B. canis and Brucella abortus (B. abortus) infection in human sera and evaluated the results obtained by agglutination-based techniques using standardized antigens made from B. canis comparatively. All of the subjects were negative in terms of Rose-Bengal plate test. Undiluted serum samples were initially screened by rapid slide agglutination test (RSAT), and those which were found positive were retested in the dilution of 1/25-1/200. Confirmation of the positive

Hispanic health disparities and housing: Comparing measured and self-reported health metrics among housed and homeless Latin individuals.

Previous studies argue that Hispanics are healthier and less likely to experience homelessness than other populations in their same socioeconomic position. However, earlier studies have not explored the relationship between housing status and health for Latin individuals. This study examines 1) the health disparities between homeless and housed Hispanics in El Paso, Texas, and 2) the Hispanic health and homelessness paradoxes using an intersectional framework to understand health risks. A large number of Hispanic residents of El Paso (N = 1152) were surveyed. Demographic, health, and housing d…

The family house-A safe haven: A qualitative study of families' experiences staying in a hospital family house during their children's hospitalisation.

AIMS: To gain knowledge about families' experiences while staying in a hospital family house during their child's hospitalisation. BACKGROUND: When a child is hospitalised with a chronic, serious or life-threatening disease, the entire family is stressed as normal everyday life is disrupted. In Denmark, accompanying the ill child to the paediatric wards is often possible only for one of the parents. DESIGN: This qualitative study takes a phenomenological-hermeneutical approach, exploring the lived experience of families' everyday life in a hospital family house. METHOD: The study comprised

Housing Status, Psychiatric Symptoms, and Substance Abuse Outcomes Among Sober Living House Residents over 18 Months.

Studies show individuals entering sober living recovery houses (SLHs) make significant, sustained improvement on measures of substance abuse problems, employment, and arrests. The current study assessed changes in housing status among SLH residents over 18 months and the relative influences of housing status and psychiatric distress on substance abuse outcomes. Two hundred forty one men and 58 women, all age 18 and older, were interviewed within their first week of entering 20 SLHs and again at 6-, 12-, and 18-month follow-up. Between entry into the SLHs and 18-month follow-up homelessness dec…

[Evaluation of the prevalence of house dust mites in house dust sent to the Adnan Menderes University Medical Faculty Parasitology Laboratory].

House dust is composed of remnants and particles of many kinds of animate and inanimate materials. It has been reported that the most common allergens in house dust are mites that cause allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, and seasonal keratoconjunctivitis. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of house dust mites in dust specimens sent to our laboratory from November 2002-May 2004. Specimens were evaluated using the flotation concentration method in the first, fourth and 24th hours. Out of 88 specimens, mites were detected in 20 (22.72%). In addition Enterobius vermic

Evaluation of house-to-house versus fixed-site oral poliovirus vaccine delivery strategies in a mass immunization campaign in Egypt.

Among poliomyelitis eradication activities recommended by WHO are national immunization days. Most campaigns have delivered oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) from fixed sites, reaching 80-90% of target populations. Although house-to-house vaccination provides nearly universal coverage, countries have been reluctant to use this approach because it is considered more costly and logistically difficult. To quantify the cost-effectiveness of both these strategies, we compared the vaccine coverage and vaccination costs per child for house-to-house and fixed-site delivery (38% and 13% higher, respectivel

Multiple sclerosis and housing insecurity or forcible displacement: A scoping review.

There is an increasing number of people experiencing housing insecurity and forcible displacement globally. We perform a scoping review, searching PubMed (1 January 1990-30 June 2026) for the key terms "housing insecurity," "inadequate housing," "houselessness," "homelessness," "housing," "forcible displacement," "refugee," "asylum seeker," and "internal displacement," focusing on the outcomes of persons with multiple sclerosis. We estimate the approximate number of persons with multiple sclerosis in these situations. The number of reports from persons with multiple sclerosis who experience ho…

Effect of housing insecurity on dermatological conditions among PLHIV in Kenya.

Dermatological conditions are a leading cause of non-fatal disability globally and are highly prevalent among people living with HIV (PLHIV). Housing insecurity is widespread and disproportionately affects PLHIV, exposing them to environmental and psychosocial stressors that can trigger or exacerbate inflammatory and infectious skin conditions and undermine HIV care. However, evidence directly linking housing insecurity to dermatological outcomes among PLHIV remains scarce. Therefore, this study investigates the relationship between housing insecurity and skin conditions among PLHIV. Data were…

Evaluation of a Reduced Work Schedule and Housing Authority Employee Wellbeing.

BACKGROUND: Public housing employees work in challenging conditions with many stressors. A Colorado housing authority requested an evaluation of its voluntary reduced work schedule pilot program and its association with employee wellbeing. Previous research has shown promising short-term improvements in employee productivity and morale from reduced schedule programs, but researchers have questioned whether impacts on wellbeing could be sustained. The study aimed to evaluate if program participants and non-participants reported differences in wellbeing measures over 18 months post-implementatio…

Housing Cost Burden and Outcomes Among Medicaid Beneficiaries With Heart Failure.

IMPORTANCE: Housing cost burden is at an all-time high in the US and may disproportionately affect health outcomes among low-income populations. Medicaid-insured individuals and those diagnosed with cardiovascular (CV) disease, such as heart failure (HF), may be especially at increased risk of adverse health outcomes associated with housing cost burden. OBJECTIVE: To assess the association between area-level housing cost burden and the probability of CV-related hospitalization or emergency department (ED) visits among Medicaid beneficiaries aged 19 to 64 years with HF. DESIGN, SETTING, AND P…

Implementing Housing First in Brazil: A National Survey of Existing Programs.

Housing First provides immediate, permanent, supportive housing with consumer choice, harm reduction, and separation of housing and services. This descriptive, cross-sectional study surveyed five Housing First programs that operate in Brazil and represent all known initiatives during data collection. Although programs adhered to Housing First's core principles, substantial variation existed across sites in governance, funding, staffing, and public service integration. Key implementation barriers included food insecurity and neighborhood safety concerns. National policy momentum provides a path…

Geriatric Horses in Germany: Approaches to Nutrition, Housing and Overall Care.

Changes in horse management and use mean that a growing number of horses are now kept into older age, while age-specific management practices for these animals remain insufficiently documented. This cross-sectional online survey aimed to describe the housing, feeding, activity, behaviour and care routines of horses aged 20 years and older in Germany, based on 923 questionnaires completed by horse owners about their senior horses. Most horses maintained regular tactile social contact (87.4%, n = 805), and over half were still ridden or driven (61.6%, n = 566). However, the proportion of horses …
