Cellular DNA contents of consecutive hydatidiform moles were analysed by flow cytometry of unfixed samples, freed of maternal tissue and treated with detergent and trypsin, using two external controls. DNA-diploidy was found in 62 moles, DNA-triploidy in 42 and DNA-tetraploidy in one. Two non-molar placentas and two invasive moles were found to be DNA-diploid. From January 1, 1970 to July 1, 1976, 128 women had hydatidiform moles evacuated at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Women's Hospitals. Five women with complete and partial hydatidiform mole were examined by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Spin-echo pulse sequences (T2 weighted) were found to provide excellent resolution, while inversion-recovery pulse sequences (T1 weighted) gave better pathological detail. The myometrium was clearly seen on each patient and no invasion by the tumour detected. This corresponded to the histological findings. The potential uses of magnetic resonance in the diagnosis of primary and recurrent trophoblastic disease and its role in management are discussed.

PURPOSE: Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) coexisting with a steadily progressing pregnancy is an extremely rare condition presented in the literature as a single case or case series of successful delivery. The purpose of this study was to describe five cases of GTD and present possible management strategies for such patients.

Urine samples obtained from normal pregnant women and patients with trophoblastic diseases contain 30-kDa protein that suppresses phytohemagglutinin-induced T cell proliferation. The immunosuppressive protein was measured by a newly developed radioimmunoassay. The cellular DNA and RNA contents of 152 patients with hydatidiform moles (69 benign and 83 malignant) were analysed by flow cytometry (FCM), and strict follow-up was implemented. BACKGROUND: Tubal hydatidiform mole is known to be an extremely rare disease, moreover, gastrointestinal metastasis from an ectopic complete mole has never been reported.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 33-year-old woman presented with gastrointestinal bleeding. She had undergone laparoscopic left salpingectomy for a tubal complete mole a month earlier. An ileal invasion of mole was identified. The patient received nine cycles of adjuvant methotrexate chemotherapy after small bowel resection and anastomosis. She was been without recurrence 20 months after therapy.

Monoclonal antibodies raised against living, early invasive mouse trophoblast cells were screened on paraffin sections from first- and third-trimester placentas and from hydatidiform moles and choriocarcinoma. From 1963 through 1988, a total of 194 hysterographies were performed for 111 patients. Three types of abnormalities were observed on the hysterogram: filling defect, intramural invasion of the uterine wall by the contrast medium; and intravasation of the contrast medium into the pelvic veins.
