The incidence of testicular cancer in cryptorchidism is 30 to 50 times higher than in general population. We present a case of hydronephrosis caused by a seminoma in an abdominal cryptorchid testis. By computer search of the literature, we found few cases of hydronephrosis due to fecal impaction. Because such a complication is extremely rare, we describe an 81-year-old woman with dementia, gallstones, arterial hypertension, and diverticulosis of the sigma who was hospitalized for severe constipation, fecaloma, and bilateral hydronephrosis. Through simultaneous lavage by two rectal tubes and manual disimpaction of fecaloma, bilateral hydronephrosis was resolved. We also briefly review the appropriate literature.

A 29-year-old Japanese primipara with fetal sacrococcygeal teratoma and hydronephrosis was referred to our department at 22 weeks of gestation. The preload index of the inferior vena cava (PLI) was 0.75 and fetal cardiac failure was suspected at 28 weeks of gestation. In this study, we have reported an unusual case of giant hydronephrosis of the right kidney diagnosed as a result of pain, and upon palpation the detection of an abdominal mass. An ultrasound examination also indicated the possible presence of a large abdominal liquid mass. The hydatic serology was negative. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether children presenting clinically with pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction had fetal hydronephrosis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Forty-three children, born during or after 1985, presented clinically with pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction. Records of the maternal pregnancies were reviewed with reference to the findings of any fetal ultrasonography.
RESULTS: In 25 patients fetal ultrasonography was performed at or beyond 30 weeks' gestation (mean 33.2). None had significant fetal hydronephrosis.

The case of a 5-year-old girl, complaining of left abdominal and flank pain, is reported. The excretory urogram and retrograde pyelography showed an obstruction located at the left upper ureter with hydronephrosis. Exploration revealed a small ureteral polyp obstructing the lumen. The polyp along with the short segment of the ureter was resected. Diagnostic and therapeutic considerations are discussed.

Between 1987 and 1991, 160 hydronephrotic kidneys were diagnosed prenatally and confirmed postnatally in 100 infants. The aim of the study was to describe the natural history and management of primary hydronephrosis detected prenatally. Arguments against the use of diuretic renography in the assessment of newborn hydronephrosis include immature function of neonatal kidneys, previously reported poor diuretic response and nonreproducible drainage patterns. To address these concerns we reviewed the initial and followup renal scans of 17 neonates with hydronephrosis without ureterectasis diagnosed by perinatal ultrasonography. Renal injury is a major potential complication of patients with neurogenic bladder impairment. There are many clinical, radiological and urodynamic factors that are widely available and that may aid in predicting which patients are at risk of renal injury. This study aims at achieving an objective statistical analysis of these multiple risk factors.
