An immunologic basis for episodes of farmer's lung is shown by the response of susceptible individuals to inhalation challenge with extracts of Micropolyspora faeni, the main sensitizing agent in moldy hay dust. However, if the complement-fixing capacity of the farmer's serum for M. faeni antigen is used as a quantitative assessment of sensitivity, it does not predict whether an individual will respond to inhalation challenge. The chronotropic effects of all currently available volatile anesthetics were investigated in isolated rat atrial preparations. Anesthetic ethers, diethyl ether, methoxyflurane, and enflurane elicited a dose-dependent positive chronotropic effect. Fluroxene produced a slight depression at low concentrations. The halogenated hydrocarbon anesthetics, halothane, chloroform, and trichloroethylene, did not show a uniform pattern. Halothane's effect was small and biphasic. Chloroform caused a dose-dependent decrease in heart rate, and trichloroethylene caused a marked positive chronotropic effect. T

There is considerable potential for worker exposure to tetrachloroethylene, both by skin contact and by inhalation, during its use in dry cleaning and degreasing operations. This paper reviews accounts of both accidental overexposures of workers and controlled exposures of human subjects by these two routes of exposure. Exposure of mice to 1000 ppm of vinyl chloride (VC), 6 hr/day, 5 days/week, caused some acute deaths with toxic hepatitis and marked tubular necrosis of the renal cortex. Law enforcement may consider ocular changes in their examinations to determine drug impairment and the source, including from cannabis.
