Dinitriles bearing aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active moieties [tetraphenylethylene (TPE) or diphenylphenanthrene (DPP)] were prepared. Compounds 4 (TPE-linked) and 8 (DPP-linked) showed considerably redshifted emission resulting from their large Stokes shifts and also strong fluorescence in the aggregated and solid states. Cyanides and isocyanides of first-row transition metal M(CN) (M=Sc-Zn) are investigated with quantum chemistry techniques, providing predictions for their molecular properties. A careful analysis of the competition between cyanide and isocyanide isomers along the transition series has been carried out. In agreement with the experimental observations, late transition metals (Co-Zn) clearly prefer a cyanide arrangement. Selective deamidation of Asn67 of RNase A to beta-Asp67 and Asp67 residues at neutral pH initially produces greater amounts of the beta-Asp derivative. As the reaction proceeds the relative concentration of [Asp67]-RNase A increases and, at equilibrium, becomes predominant. Such a discrepancy between the kinetic and thermodynamic control on reaction products is discussed in light of information from X-ray three-dimensional analysis and the lower thermodynamic stability of the beta-Asp derivative relative to the parent enzyme.

Disorders of laterality are often associated with complex CHD. There is considerable debate about the appropriate terminology to describe these conditions. As our understanding of the genetic basis of these disorders improves, it is likely that terminology will be dictated by the genetic aetiology. The genetic basis of laterality disorders in the Indian population has not been studied. We report two families with autosomal recessive inheritance of isomerism and homozygous variants in the GDF1 gene in affected family members.

BACKGROUND: Congenital cardiac defects are not rare among neonates. Prompt assessment for life-threatening anomalies is essential for rapid management decisions and positive outcomes. Extracardiac anomalies can occur in congenital heart defects, and their presence increases morbidity and mortality in these neonates.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 31- month-old infant black girl in Tanzania who presented with an on-and-off history of difficulty in breathing, easy fatigability, facial and lower-limb swelling, recurrent respiratory tract infections, and failure to thrive.
