In a follow-up study of a consecutive series of 1000 patients, who underwent Billroth II resection for duodenal ulcer 22-30 years earlier, the mucosal changes of the gastric stump could be studied by endoscopy and biopsy in 196 cases. At the histological examination only 7.1% of the patients had a normal gastric mucosa: the remaining 92.9% had chronic atrophic gastritis., which was diffuse and most marked at the gastro-jejunostomy. Injuries to the duodenum are rare and their treatment is controversial. We have wanted to assess the results of treatment in 9 cases of duodenal trauma operated successively. 6 patients were operated at once because of associated lesions producing a state of shock. There is presented the case of a patient with liver cirrhosis hepatomegalic form, echinococcosis and gallbladder stones. We reviewed operative procedures, type of stones, and coexistence of periampullary duodenal diverticula in 115 patients with common bile duct stones who underwent first surgery at our department between 1982 and 1991. Ectopic pancreas rarely produces symptoms and often goes undetected. We report a 28-year-old man with ectopic pancreas presenting with symptoms and radiological findings mimicking superior mesenteric artery syndrome. Excision of the lesion and duodeno-jejunostomy led to relief.
