Malignant fibrous histiocytoma arising from the alimentary tract is extremely rare. We experienced a young patient with an inflammatory type of malignant fibrous histiocytoma in the jejunum which produced granulocyte-colony stimulating factor. Small bowel diverticulosis is in contrast to large intestine diverticulosis an uncommon, acquired entity. In most cases it was found in duodenum and as a Meckel's diverticulum. Jejunal or ileal diverticulosis is a relatively rare disease. Although the majority of the patients do not require surgical treatment because of the absence of clinical signs, in 10% complications may necessitate small bowel resection. The clinical significance, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment of jejunal diverticular disease are reviewed.

Postoperative articulatory function was assessed in 5 patients who had had radical operations for cancers of the oropharyngeal region with surgical reconstruction using free jejunum flaps. The composition of inflammatory cells as well as the expression of cell adhesion molecules (LFA-1/CD11a, ICAM-1/CD54, CD36) in jejunal biopsies from children with active, untreated coeliac disease (CD) has been analyzed and compared with control biopsies. A radiopaque biofragmentable anastomosis ring was used for end-to-end anastomosis in a 3-month-old calf with a nonreducible umbilical hernia and partial small intestinal obstruction. Recovery was normal, and the ring degraded to several small fragments that passed in the feces between days 18 and 26 after surgery. Tissue toxicity and radiosensitizing effects of five different therapeutic drugs, bleomycin (BLM), chlorpromazine (CPZ), misonidazole (MISO), metronidazole (Metro) and Cis-diamminedichloro platinum (II) (c-DDP) on the jejunal crypts of Swiss albino mice were compared. All the drugs except Metro, when used alone, showed comparable toxicity. When combined with radiation, BLM produced a pronounced enhancement in the radiation damage (DMF = 1.5) while Metro did not have any effect; the other drugs lay between BLM and Metro in their radiosensitizing effect.

We present a case of jejunal duplication with a localized perforation of the adjacent normal intestine into the substance of the liver in a 3-month-old baby. This was successfully treated by resection of the duplication and a short segment of the normal jejunum. The diagnosis was made preoperatively by pertechnetate technetium 99m isotope scanning and a barium meal examination, and we discuss the use of these investigations in children presenting with melena.

Since 1947 a total of 32 staged jejunal interpositions have been performed in children for total esophageal replacement. An 8-year-old boy with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome underwent laparotomy and resection of a stage 1E malignant lymphoma of the jejunum. Although preoperative platelet counts were less than 10,000/cu mm, intraoperative bleeding was minimal, and postoperative bleeding from the wound was easily controlled with platelet infusions and local application of epinephrine.
