[Pediatric lung abscess].

Pediatric pulmonary abscess, a rare complication of pulmonary infection or congenital malformation, is characterized by parenchymal necrosis and purulent cavitation. Diagnosis is established through thoracic imaging and microbiological investigations, whereas treatment is mainly based on prolonged antimicrobial therapy, with percutaneous drainage or surgical intervention considered in cases of therapeutic failure. Prognosis is generally favorable but requires follow-up to detect possible sequelae or an underlying pulmonary malformation.

Rheumatoid Lung Disease.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease that affects the synovial membrane of the joints in a symmetrical pattern, leading to cartilage and bone damage. It affects 0.5-1% of the general population, predominantly women in their fourth to fifth decades of life. In addition to its impact on the joints, RA has numerous extra-articular manifestations involving the skin, eyes, heart and lung. Among these, pulmonary manifestations play a pivotal role in morbidity and mortality. RA can affect all anatomical compartments of the lung such as the airways, lung parenchyma, pul…

Eosinophilic Lung Diseases.

The diagnosis of eosinophilic lung disease usually relies on characteristic clinical-imaging features and the demonstration of alveolar eosinophilia, while lung biopsy is generally not necessary. The etiology has practical implications, including interruption of a medicinal or illicit drugs, treatment of infections with parasites or fungi, or smoking cessation. The diagnosis of idiopathic eosinophilic pneumonia is considered only once all known causes of eosinophilia have been excluded, especially medications and infections. Treatment of eosinophilic lung diseases involves oral glucocorticoids…

Fungal lung disease.

Fungal lung disease encompasses a wide spectrum of organisms and associated clinical conditions, presenting a significant global health challenge. The type and severity of disease are determined by underlying host immunity and infecting fungal strain. The most common group of diseases are associated with the filamentous fungus Aspergillus species and include allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, sensitisation, aspergilloma and chronic and invasive pulmonary aspergillosis. Fungal lung disease remains epidemiologically heterogenous and is influenced by geography, environment and host comorbid…

Leiomyosarcoma: Lung Metastasis.

Uterine leiomyosarcoma distant metastasis is common, and lung metastasis has been reported. However, unique cases have been identified either with late onset of metastatic disease or with large size of lung metastasis. A typical approach to avoid metastasis would be a hysterectomy. Nonetheless, metastatic recurrence is common. We encountered a case at our hospital with leiomyosarcoma metastatic to the lungs. Lung metastasis was noted to be 17 cm in diameter. This size has not yet been reported in the literature to the best of our knowledge.
