OBJECTIVE: To determine whether pediatricians in managed care settings adhere to national guidelines concerning the provision of clinical preventive services.
DESIGN: Surveys were mailed between September 1996 and April 1997 to all pediatricians practicing in a California group-model health maintenance organization. The survey asked pediatricians about their screening and education practices on 34 recommended services and the actions taken with adolescent patients who have engaged in risk behavior.

OBJECTIVES: Currently, Japan has a near low incidence of tuberculosis (TB); the incidence is below 20/100,000. Considering this incidence, the medical service provision system needs to be restructured and related policies need to be revised. The Revised National Guidelines for TB Control, issued in May 2011 by the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, provided the policy towards achieving a low incidence of TB. This study aims to provide suggestions for restructuring the medical service system in Japan by analyzing the systems in selected countries with low incidence.

Clinical simulations are gaining more attention in the field of maternal-child health and allow nursing programs and service organizations to assess competency of students and staff in key patient safety situations. Nursing and midwifery programs, orientations, and yearly reaccreditation modules commonly include simulation on postpartum hemorrhage, placenta abruption, shoulder distocia, and other high-risk, low-incidence emergency events.
