INTRODUCTION: Sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC) is a rare tumor highly aggressive most frequently arise in the maxillary sinus and nasal cavity. Oral involvement is extremely rare.
CASE REPORT: A 62-years-old male presents a large infiltrative mass involving the hard palate and left alveolar ridge. Computed tomography showed bone destruction and invasion of paranasal sinuses and orbits. Histology revealed a malignant neoplasm consisting of small round cells with minimal cytoplasm and hyperchromatic nuclei without any connection with the oral mucosal epithelium. Immunohistochemical a

Extramedullary plasmacytoma is a rare form of plasma cell dyscrasia, in which malignant plasma cell tumors arise outside the bone marrow. The tumor may arise in any part of the body but the vast majority occur in the head and neck, primarily in the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, or upper airway. Six patients with extramedullary plasmacytoma are presented and the clinical and radiographic findings are reviewed.

Because of the close anatomical relationship between the maxillary sinus and the adjacent dental region, determining the primary site of cysts in these regions can be a diagnostic dilemma. In this article, two cases with similar radiological findings are presented. These cases had lesions involving the maxillary sinus and the adjacent alveolar process; the lesions were surrounded with egg-shaped, linear opacities. Diagnoses of a residual radicular cyst in one case and a calcified mucocoele (which is very rare) in the other case were predicted with the help of radiological findings and were con

Extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) is a systemic reaction to inadequate hematopoiesis. We report two exceedingly rare cases of EMH involving the paranasal sinuses. The first patient, a 30-year-old man, presented with a maxillary sinus mass. The lesion was excised by endoscopic surgery: definitive histology identified foci of EMH within an inflammatory fibromyxoid pseudotumor. The second case occurred in a 29-year-old man affected by intermediate beta-thalassemia. He was hospitalized with a diagnosis of sphenoid sinus mucocele secondary to an ethmoid lesion. The patient underwent endoscopic exc

OBJECTIVE: The current study aimed to investigate the value of definitive-intent (chemo)radiotherapy in treating sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC) in a single institution.
METHODS: The medical records of 21 patients with SNUC treated with definitive-intent (chemo)radiotherapy between 2011 and 2021 in one single institution were retrospectively reviewed. We analyzed the treatment efficiency and long-term survivals.
RESULTS: A total of 21 patients were included in this cohort, 12 patients presented with T4 stage at diagnosis, and 6 in T1/T2, 3 in T3 stage. Nine patients (42.9%, 9/21)

INTRODUCTION: Metastatic mesenchymal chondrosarcoma of the spine is a highly unusual disease without standard curative managements yet. The objective of this case report is to present a very rare case of metastatic chondrosarcoma to the spine successfully operated by surgical treatment. The management of these unique cases has yet to be well-documented.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 34-year-old woman presented with a 4-month history of continuous and progressive back pain and a 1-month history of radiating pain of bilateral lower extremities. The patient, who had been diagnosed of mesenchymal chondrosa

We present the case of a patient with a 30-year history of exposure to sawdust who was diagnosed with mucinous intestinal-type sinonasal adenocarcinoma after histological examination. The patient presented with neurological symptoms; moreover, intra- and extra-cranial leptomeningeal involvement, which is exceedingly rare in this type of tumors, was observed at the time of diagnosis.

In this review, the authors examine the diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic advances in clinical management of Solitary Plasmacytoma of bone, Extramedullary Plasmacytoma and their relationship to multiple myeloma. The clinical differences among these tumors are the subject of continued studies. Oral symptoms and signs of the neoplasias are relatively common. The literature is reviewed with respect to the prevalence of oral and maxillofacial manifestations and the presence of such manifestations as the first sign and/or symptom of disease. The case of a young adult patient, with a kappa-ligh

Maxillary ameloblastomas can extensively expand into the paranasal sinuses or even the nasal cavity due to a slow growth pattern. Sinusitis is rarely the first tumor-related complaint. Due to the various growth forms of ameloblastomas the challenging histological differential diagnosis includes several other odontogenic as well as benign and malignant non-odontogenic tumors, e.g. tumors from the mucosa of the paranasal sinuses, salivary glands and Rathke's pouch. Despite the radical surgical approach a complete resection with wide margins cannot always be achieved. Maxillary ameloblastomas sho

Radiographic appearances of tumours of the paranasal sinus are often equivocal. One must try to differentiate the main radiologic signs--shadow, and changes in the walls (tumour, inflammation?). A few important data are given. But examples also show the sources of error. The need for immediate diagnostic-surgical measures in all cases of even minimal suspicion of malignancy is obvious.

BACKGROUND: Local recurrence, and regional and distant metastases, respectively, develop in 30% and 15% of patients with esthesioneuroblastoma (ENB).
METHODS: This case report includes 3 patients with unusual recurrences of ENB in the sinonasal tract.
RESULTS: Patient 1 developed ENB in the bilateral maxillary sinuses after unilateral endoscopic resection of a left ENB followed by postoperative proton radiotherapy. Patient 2 developed ENB at the left optic-carotid recess 7 years after a craniofacial resection and postoperative radiotherapy. Patient 3 developed ENB over the left zygomatic pro

The thirty-second documented case of ureteral stump metastasis from renal adenocarcinoma is presented. It demonstrates well the variable and often unusual presentation of renal adenocarcinoma and the utility of our current diagnostic instrumentation (here ureteroscopy and skinny needle biopsy) in documenting metastatic disease. Also, and in contrast to prior reports, it documents lengthy survival and a lack of extensive metastases in this high risk group of patients. The literature is reviewed and the presentation, metastatic pathways, and management of ureteral stump metastases from renal ade

The angiomatous polyp corresponds to the vascular compromised nasochoanal part of a sinochoanal polyp. We describe the MRI characteristics of such lesions in four patients. All patients had an angiomatous polyp, in three cases as part of an antrochoanal polyp, and in one case as part of a sphenochoanal polyp. The unenhanced MR images depicted the typical appearance of a sinochoanal polyp, hypointense on T1-weighted and hyperintense on T2-weighted images. On gadolinium-enhanced MR images, the sinusal part showed little or no peripheral enhancement; however, the nasochoanal part, corresponding t

BACKGROUND: Regardless of advances in diagnosis and treatment during the past 40 years, the overall 5-year survival rates for oral and oropharyngeal squamous cancers have only slightly improved and remain around 50%. Thus, the early diagnosis and treatment of carcinoma by health care providers are essential in achieving a good prognosis. We report a case of invasive squamous cell carcinoma that presented as a benign endodontic-periodontic lesion with a 7-mm periodontal pocket on tooth #15 in a 40-year-old, non-smoking woman. The subsequent management of the case is also discussed. The study wa
