Sorted chromosomes from each of the 20 clusters of the male porcine bivariate flow karyotype were amplified and biotinylated using DOP-PCR. The chromosomes comprising each cluster were identified by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) of the 20 probes to R-banded male pig metaphase spreads. A standard flow karyotype for the pig is presented.

A deletion of the albino (c) locus on mouse chromosome 7 has been demonstrated using Q- and G-banding methods in a mouse heterozygous for the radiation-induced lethal albino allele, c(25H). Deletions of the long arm of chromosome 20 are associated with several myeloid malignancies. We have analyzed the structure of the del(20q) in 30 patients and two cell lines. Twenty-one of the patients presented with a myeloproliferative disorder and nine with a myelodysplastic syndrome. Two categories of deletions were identified. Cytogenetic studies have been carried out on bone marrow aspirates from 25 patients with myelomatosis. A microculture technique was applied to the study of lymphocytes of Umbra limi, which have a low number of large meta- and submetacentric chromosomes (2n = 22). PURPOSE: The dicentric chromosome assay (DCA), the gold standard for radiation biodosimetry, evaluates an individual absorbed radiation dose by the analysis of DNA damage in human lymphocytes. The conventional (C-DCA) and QuickScan (QS-DCA) scoring methods are sensitive for estimating radiation dose.
