Organizational readiness to implement population-based screening and genetic service delivery for hereditary cancer prevention and control.

Despite clinical guidelines, programs conducting population-based screening and genetic service delivery for hereditary cancer prevention and control are rare in practice. We interviewed individuals (n = 13) instrumental in implementing seven unique clinical programs conducting either universal tumor screening for Lynch Syndrome or routine family history screening and provision of genetic services for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer in the United States. To characterize determinants of readiness to implement population-based cancer genetic service delivery models, interviews and deductive

Determinants of the availability of hepatitis C testing services in opioid treatment programs: results from a national study.

OBJECTIVES: We examined trends and organizational-level correlates of the availability of HCV testing in opioid treatment programs. METHODS: We used generalized ordered logit models to examine associations between organizational characteristics of 383 opioid treatment programs from the 2005 and 2011 National Drug Abuse Treatment System Survey and HCV testing availability. RESULTS: Between 2005 and 2011, the proportion of opioid treatment programs offering HCV testing increased but largely because of increases in off-site referrals rather than on-site testing. HCV testing availability was hig

The Impact of Workplace Bullying and Organizational Incivility on Nurses' Emotional Distress: Exploring Parallel Mediation Through Life Satisfaction and Functional Impairment-A Cross-Sectional Study.

Workplace bullying and organizational incivility are widespread psychosocial hazards in healthcare, putting nurses at a heightened risk for emotional distress. While prior research has demonstrated their harmful effects, the mechanisms through which these stressors influence psychological outcomes are still not well understood. Guided by the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, this study aimed to investigate whether life satisfaction and work and social adjustment function as parallel mediators linking workplace mistreatment to emotional distress among nurses. A cross-sectional survey was

Compassionate Leadership in Healthcare: A Concept Analysis Using the Walker and Avant Method.

Compassionate leadership is an emerging approach in healthcare management that integrates compassion with leadership to support healthcare professionals and improve the quality of care. However, its conceptual boundaries and defining characteristics remain insufficiently established, limiting its consistent application and empirical evaluation. This study aimed to clarify the concept of compassionate leadership among healthcare providers using the Walker and Avant concept analysis method and to provide a conceptual foundation for its application in healthcare leadership, education, and practic

Disentangling the Relationship between Physician and Organizational Performance: A Signal Detection Approach.

Background. In previous research, we employed a signal detection approach to measure the performance of general practitioners (GPs) when deciding about urgent referral for suspected lung cancer. We also explored associations between provider and organizational performance. We found that GPs from practices with higher referral positive predictive value (PPV; chance of referrals identifying cancer) were more reluctant to refer than those from practices with lower PPV. Here, we test the generalizability of our findings to a different cancer. Methods. A total of 252 GPs responded to 48 vignettes d

Organizational patient safety culture and workforce well-being among healthcare workers: associations with resilience and work-life balance in a hospital-wide cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Patient safety culture is widely recognized as a core determinant of healthcare quality, safety, and organizational performance (1). Increasing attention has also been directed toward healthcare workforce well-being, particularly positive psychological resources such as resilience (2) and work-life balance. These factors, alongside the mitigation of occupational stress (3), are essential in influencing safety-related behaviors and the sustainability of health service delivery. However, empirical evidence integrating multidimensional patient safety culture with positive workforce we

Strategic communication to strengthen nurses' professional identity and drive cultural change in healthcare organizations: A JBI scoping review protocol.

Strategic communication plays a vital role in healthcare organizations undergoing continuous cultural transformation, yet its impact on reinforcing nurses' professional identity remains underexplored. Nurses' professional identity-how they perceive and enact their roles shaped by professional values and social interactions-is fundamental to job satisfaction, resilience, collaboration, and retention. This scoping review protocol outlines a study designed to systematically map and synthesize existing literature on the interaction between strategic communication, professional identity, and cultur

Modifiable Perioperative Practices for the Prevention of Postoperative Complications After Cardiac Surgery: A Narrative Review.

Background and Objectives: Despite substantial advances in surgical techniques, anesthesia, and perioperative care, postoperative complications remain a major source of morbidity, mortality, prolonged hospitalization, and healthcare utilization following adult cardiac surgery (CS). Increasing evidence suggests that many of these complications are influenced by modifiable perioperative factors that can be addressed through multidisciplinary care. Materials and Methods: A narrative review was conducted to synthesize current evidence regarding perioperative practices associated with the preventio

Understanding functional diversity in public primary health care: a cluster analysis of utilization patterns.

BACKGROUND: Primary health care (PHC) systems are typically organized using uniform administrative models that assume functional similarity across facilities. In practice, however, PHC units differ substantially in how services are delivered. In Greece, despite ongoing reforms, empirical evidence on the functional heterogeneity of public PHC units remains limited. This study aims to classify PHC units based on observed service utilization patterns and to identify the organizational and geographical determinants shaping these functional typologies. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed

Workplace Environment and Psychological Distress of Nurses and Nursing Assistants During COVID-19.

Registered nurses (RNs) and nursing assistants (NAs) play critical roles during crises. Understanding how the perceived work environment affects psychological distress among these healthcare workers is essential for developing interventions that support mental health and organizational outcomes. This study examined the association between perceived workplace environment and psychological distress, including stress, depressive, anxiety, and somatic symptoms, among inpatient RNs and NAs during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 84 RNs and NAs employed at a large a

The influence of pandemic-related workplace safety practices on frontline service employee wellbeing outcomes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the vulnerability of frontline employee (FLEs) to infections and other hazards and highlighted the importance of workplace safety practices (WSP) for service organizations. In response to the critical issue of service safety, we developed and empirically tested a model proposing that WSPs negatively influence FLE perceptions of pandemic related threats and positively influence their perceptions of organizational supportiveness (POS). In turn, these perceptions have time-lagged effects on two aspects of FLE wellbeing-reduced emotional exhaustion and increased w

Workplace gaslighting in nursing practice: a concept analysis.

BACKGROUND: Gaslighting is a subtle and insidious form of psychological abuse in the workplace that operates through the distortion or denial of reality and the induction of cognitive doubt, ultimately undermining individuals' confidence in their perceptions and professional judgment. Although the concept has gained increasing attention in organizational and psychological literature, gaslighting remains theoretically underdeveloped and conceptually ambiguous within nursing practice. It is frequently conflated with related phenomena such as workplace bullying, psychological violence, or incivil

Data in ambulatory care logistics: What modelers need and what practice can offer.

Ambulatory care facilities play a critical role in many healthcare systems worldwide. To ensure efficient care provision, we must match care demand with care supply. To support provider decision-making, this article reviews Operations Research planning problems, the corresponding planning and control decisions that must be made when opening up or running an ambulatory care facility, and their data requirements. We give an overview of demand and supply-related data that an ambulatory care facility can collect and comment on the consequences for decision-making if some of that data is missing. W
