Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is a neoplasm with uncertain behavior. We describe a case in a 66-year-old female who underwent resection of a left atrial tumor suspected to be a cardiac myxoma which was subsequently diagnosed as an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor. After three years' follow-up the patient underwent a second operation to remove tumoral occurrence in the right atrium, diagnosed as an intimal sarcoma. It cannot be confirmed whether the tumoral recurrence with a different diagnosis (intimal sarcoma) was a progression from the primary tumor or the metachronous appearance of a

Sarcomas are a diverse group of cancers of mesenchymal origin. Epithelioid inflammatory myofibroblastic sarcoma (EIMS) is an uncommon and hardly reported neoplasm that is a malignant variant of the typically benign inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMS). We discuss an exceedingly rare case of a 53-year-old patient with primary EIMS of the pericardium who presented in impending hemodynamic collapse. A transthoracic echocardiogram revealed a large circumferential pericardial effusion with tamponade physiology and an echogenic intrapericardial mass compressing the right ventricle to near oblite

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are one of the most complex and rare neoplasms that have been discovered, with varying behavior in different cases. They mostly arise in the thoracic and abdominal cavity, the lungs, retroperitoneum, and extremities. They can also be detected in the head and neck area. IMTs have no age or gender preference which makes them tougher to anticipate. Head and neck IMTs are benign neoplasms with locally aggressive behavior and a low risk of metastatic spread. They have an unknown etiology, and they resemble malignant lesions radiologically. In this case rep

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is an uncommon neoplasm that rarely arises in the genitourinary system. IMTs in the vulva in infants are extremely rare in the literature. The tumor consists of myofibroblastic spindle cells accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration. In this article, we aimed to describe the case of IMT in the vulva. A newborn girl presented with a mass in the vulva detected in the prenatal period. The patient was treated with surgery and chemotherapy. Follow-up 8 months after surgery showed no signs of recurrence. In conclusion, IMT has a variable clinical presenta

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare benign lesion with similarities to malignant lesions due to possible aggressive behavior. Although highly uncommon, this condition usually occurs in lungs and retroperitoneum. The involvement of the genitourinary tract represents a singular occasion. May present with nonspecific manifestations such as painless hematuria, dysuria, voiding urgency and low abdominal pain. We describe a Case of a 55-year-old patient who presented to the urology service complaining of hematuria. Imaging studies showed a 62mm lesion on the upper right side of the bl

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a tumor composed of differentiated myofibroblastic spindle-shaped cells. It occurs in the soft tissues of the abdomen and lungs, and is very rare in the sphenoid sinus. The diagnosis depends on histopathology and immunohistochemistry, and is easily misdiagnosed. Although metastasis is rare, the recurrence rate is high. Surgical resection is the treatment of choice, and where complete resection is difficult, radiation therapy, hormonal therapy, or molecular targeted drug therapy can be administered. We report a rare case of IMT with a primary origin i

CONTEXT AND AIMS: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm with intermediate malignant potential. The aim of this study is to describe and compare the clinical presentation, computed tomography (CT) findings and anaplastic lymphoma kinase -1 (ALK-1) expression of IMT of the thorax in children and adults. We also sought to study the tumour behaviour after treatment on the follow-up imaging.
MATERIALS AND METHOD: This is a retrospective observational study of 22 histopathologically proven cases of IMT in the thorax. The clinical parameters, CT findings, biopsy re

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a benign lesion that occurs most frequently in the soft tissues and viscera. In the head and neck region, the tumor has been reported to occur in the orbit, tongue, nasopharynx, larynx, and paranasal sinuses and the central nervous system. Despite being a benign lesion, it exhibits infiltrative and destructive behaviours, making histopathological examination necessary to confirm the diagnosis. We report the case of a 38-year-old female presented with a right nasolabial fold mass, which was confirmed histologically to be an IMT. Surgical excision of t

Myofibroblastic sarcoma (MFS) is an uncommon tumor rarely located in the breast. Ionizing radiation is a carcinogen capable of inducing sarcomas through DNA damage. A 42-year-old woman was diagnosed with synchronous bilateral breast infiltrating ductal carcinoma with axillary lymph node metastases on the left side. After modified left radical mastectomy and simple right mastectomy, she underwent postoperative radiation with a total volume dose of 50 Gy that included the thoracic wall and the left axillary-supraclavicular region. After a latency period of 6 years and 4 months, the patient devel

Epithelioid inflammatory myofibroblastic sarcoma (EIMS) is a rare entity and a novel variant of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT), usually seen in children and nonsmoking young adults. Their occurrence in a posttransplant setting is still rare. These tumors are characterized by prominent epithelioid morphology, large histiocytoid "Reed Sternberg"-like cell, unique pattern of ALK immuno-reactivity, and aggressive clinical behavior. Their etiology and metastatic potential is controversial. In a post-transplant setting, many factors such as trauma, infections with EBV, HIV, Hepatitis C, my

BACKGROUND: Low-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (LGMS) is a rare type of tumor. Previous research has paid much attention to reporting pathological analyses of LGMS. However, only few systematic clinical and/or radiological studies have been conducted.
METHODS: This study recruited 14 cases (8 males and 6 females) of LGMS. X-ray or computer tomography (CT) scan were performed on 11 cases. MRI was performed on 5 cases.
RESULTS: X-Ray and CT scan: Five cases developed LGMS in bones, including 3 cases in the distal femur, 1 in the right shoulder blade, and another 1 in the right inferior ramus. M

Only two cases of myofibroblastic sarcoma in the liver have been reported in the literature. Here, we report the case of a male patient with high-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma mimicking echinococcosis in the liver. The 25-year-old male patient complained of right upper quadrant swelling pain for one week and was initially diagnosed with echinococcosis. He was then scheduled for an exploratory laparotomy. During the operation, a huge mass exceeding 16 cm in diameter was found to occupy nearly the entire right trisegment of the liver, with a clear boundary and a round shape, and the mass was res

Increasing evidence suggests that Cd at levels found in the human diet can cause oxidative stress and activate redox-sensitive transcription factors in inflammatory signaling. Following inflammation, tissue repair often involves activation of redox-sensitive transcription factors in fibroblasts. In lungs, epithelial barrier remodeling is required to restore gas exchange and barrier function, and aberrant myofibroblast differentiation leads to pulmonary fibrosis. Contributions of exogenous exposures, such as dietary Cd, to pulmonary fibrosis remain incompletely defined. In the current study, we

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare soft-tissue neoplasm of unknown etiology. It mimics, clinically and radiologically, malignant tumors. Histologically, this tumor is composed of differentiated myofibroblastic spindle cells accompanied by an inflammatory infiltrate, with numerous plasma cells and/or lymphocytes. Initially described in the lung, numerous extrapulmonary sites of this tumor have been found but appendiceal IMT is rare, especially in adult women. In this study, we aimed to examine the literature as well as to describe a case of a 42-year-old woman that we operated o

Plexiform angiomyxoid myofibroblastic tumor (PAMT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor of the stomach. To date, about 40 cases of PAMT have been reported in the literature. This tumor is not specific in clinical manifestations and microscopically characterized by a plexiform growth pattern. Here, we report the case of an 11-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with PAMT. He had a complaint of right epigastric discomfort with episodic pain, gastroscopy displayed a submucosal bulge at the pylorus, and CT showed a mass in the right abdomen with uneven, delayed enhancement, and a partial gastrectomy re

We report a case of a child with a right ventricular inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) who presented with fever, viral symptoms, and abdominal discomfort. Including this case, 49 intracardiac tumors have been previously reported in all age groups. The majority of intracardiac IMTs occur in pediatric patients, with approximately half presenting in children aged <12 months. Intracardiac IMTs are generally described as benign tumors; however, depending on their location, the initial presentation may involve heart failure or sudden death.(1) In addition to cardiac signs and symptoms, the cl

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT), which was previously known as inflammatory pseudotumor, is characterized by myofibroblastic spindle cells accompanied by inflammatory infiltrates. IMT is a rare lesion of unclear etiology, which induces non-specific clinical symptoms. The present case report describes a 74-year-old female patient with recurrent IMT, which was successfully re-resected 30 months subsequent to initial surgical removal. The patient presented with left hydroureteronephrosis and a 10-cm paravertebral mass which, upon surgery, was found to involve the descending colon. Succes
