Vineyards in transition: A global assessment of the adaptation needs of grape producing regions under climate change.

This paper suggests how climate change may transform vineyards. We consider changes in agro-climatic indicators derived from climatic variables as drivers for adaptation needs. We use two climate scenarios, GCM GFL-ESM2M and HadGEM2-ES, with 0.5° spatial resolution and daily time step forced by two emission scenarios, RCP2.6 and 6.0, to estimate the transition of potential vineyards in the major grape production world areas by the late 21st century. We present and discuss changes in three impact indicators - one drought indicator and two temperature ones - aimed at exploring the benefits of tr

Trigger-Based Referral and Needs Assessment in the Intensive Care Unit: A Narrative Review and Conceptual Synthesis.

Background/Objectives: Trigger-based referral systems are widely used to identify intensive care unit (ICU) patients who may benefit from palliative care, but the extent to which trigger status corresponds to multidimensional patient and family need remains uncertain. This narrative review examines trigger-based referral, needs assessment, and integrated approaches to ICU palliative care. Methods: PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and reference lists were searched, and a purposive thematic synthesis was conducted. The original identification-stage record counts were unava…

When military-to-civilian transition support falls short: A qualitative assessment of transition needs among U.S. Veterans.

Many federal agencies and nonprofit organizations support military service members transitioning back to civilian life. Yet, veterans still report that many of their transitioning needs are not being met. Studies aimed at assessing the needs of veterans during the transition process largely include homogenous samples that lack the diverse gender, racial, and ethnic identities found among current and future populations of veterans. The current study interviewed 50 post-9/11 veterans and oversampled for women and racial and ethnic minority veterans to examine potential gaps in transition support

Developing information material to support the assessment of palliative care needs in dementia: a qualitative participatory approach.

BACKGROUND: There are approximately 1.8 million people living with dementia in Germany, of whom many present with a wide range of symptoms and needs. The assessment of these symptoms is often challenging for nursing staff in long-term care settings. The dementia-specific version of the Integrated Palliative Outcome Scale (IPOS-Dem) can support this assessment by enabling the timely identification of the needs of people living with dementia. To facilitate the use of IPOS-Dem, a user-friendly manual is required. The aim of this study is therefore to develop information material for assessing pal

Chronic Pelvic Pain in Medical Education: A Needs Assessment of British Columbian Health Care Providers in Training.

Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) affects ∼15% of women and gender-diverse people, yet it is often dismissed by health care providers, partly due to a lack of related medical education. This brief communication describes the findings of a needs assessment survey for health care trainees. The findings suggest that current health care trainees felt inadequately prepared to manage CPP. Resources tailored to the diagnostic workup and treatment of CPP are needed in medical education.

A Formal Needs Assessment in Palliative Care Clinic Development for Adolescent/Young Adults (AYAs) With Neuromuscular Disease.

BACKGROUND: Although medical advancements have prolonged survival in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), it remains a life-limiting diagnosis with numerous challenges. Our initial objective was to establish a palliative care clinic for adolescents and young adults (AYA) with DMD. METHODS: We used the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) Community-Based Palliative Care Needs Assessment and Decision-Making Tool to identify a patient population, create structured surve…

Assessment of Palliative Care Needs in Non-oncological Patients in Primary Health Care: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Introduction Patients with non-oncological chronic illnesses often have significant palliative care needs (PCN), which frequently go unrecognized due to the unpredictable course of these diseases. Early identification tools can facilitate the detection of PCN within primary health care (PHC). This study aimed to assess PCN among patients with stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure, and dementia in four primary care units (PCUs) of the Braga Local Health Unit (ULS Braga); to compare the Surprise Question (SQ) with the Portuguese version of the Supportive and Palliative Car
