An intracranial malignant teratoma was identified in a 91-day-old male Wistar rat manifesting central nervous system-related clinical signs. This tumor occupied the right midbrain and portions of the right caudal cerebrum and cranioventral cerebellum. Microscopically, the tumor contained intermingled cartilage, bone (with medullary hematopoietic tissue), fibrous connective tissue, skeletal muscle, fat, pseudostratified ciliated epithelium, stratified squamous epithelium, serous and mucoserous glands, and neural tissue with ependymal and choroid plexus epithelia. Poorly differentiated cells wit

Ovary involvement of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is rare. We report a rare case of ovarian NHL during adolescence revealed by bone metastasis. The diagnosis of malignant lymphoma was established after adnexectomy and histological study of the excised tissue. The tumor was classified as a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The patient has been treated according to the LMB French protocol with good outcome after two years. Although NHL is a rare ovarian neoplasm, it is essential to establish an accurate diagnosis as early as possible for therapeutic purposes.

Granulocytic sarcoma is a neoplasm arising from myeloid precursor cells and frequently accompanies leukaemia and myeloproliferative disorders. Granulocytic sarcoma can arise anywhere, and it frequently involves bones, perineural tissues and lymph nodes. However, granulocytic sarcoma in the female genital organs is uncommon, and it is extremely rare that it presents as an adnexal or parametrial mass. We report here the CT and MR findings in a case of granulocytic sarcoma that manifested as a uterine cervical and parametrial mass mimicking a haemorrhagic abscess in a 50-year-old woman with chron

Metastatic calcifications are associated with chronic renal failure, hyperparathyroidism, metastatic neoplasms, hypervitaminosis D, and hypercalcemia of other origins. Bone scanning agents accumulate within these extraskeletal metastatic calcifications. The authors describe two patients with hypercalcemia associated with Tc-99m MDP uptake in the lungs, stomach, and soft tissues. Ga-67 scintigraphy was also performed and showed increased uptake in the same locations as those of Tc-99m MDP, suggesting the existence of an inflammatory process. Despite adequate treatment, only partial resolution o

A composite malignant tumour arising in the breast of an elderly woman is described. The cystic tumour containing areas of squamous metaplasia, bone formation, adenocarcinoma, and osteosarcoma was surrounded by the typical changes of mammary dysplasia (fibroadenosis). The classification and acceptance of such tumours is highly debatable. There is no one acceptable classification of breast sarcomas and hence the prognosis of such neoplasms, particularly those containing heterologous tissues, is poorly defined. Evidence is presented in support of such composite tumours as being definite entities

Osteomas of the jaws are rare osteogenic lesions considered to be true neoplasms, characterized by the proliferation of compact and/or cancellous bone. It can be central, peripheral, or of an extraskeletal type. The central osteoma arises from the endosteum, the peripheral osteoma from the periosteum, and the extraskeletal soft tissue osteoma usually develops within a muscle. However, in a previous work we have suggested that at least some peripheral osteomas may be reactive rather than neoplasms, probably associated with trauma. Some reported cases did have a clear history of trauma; however,

BACKGROUND: Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are blood malignancies manifested in increased production of red blood cells, white blood cells, and/or platelets. Myelofibrosis is a subtype of MPNs characterized by the formation of scar-like tissues in the bone marrow due to abnormal hematopoiesis. It is considered a disease of both hematopoietic stem cells and stem cell niches. Patients with myelofibrosis have very poor prognosis, and there is no effective treatment so far. Myelofibrosis has routinely been detected by using histochemical staining methods which produce qualitative rather than

The chest wall can be involved in both primary and secondary tumors, and even today, their management and treatment continue to be a challenge for surgeons. Primary chest-wall tumors are relatively rare and include a large group of neoplasms that can arise from not only bone or cartilage of the chest wall but also from associated subcutaneous tissue from muscle and blood vessels. Secondary tumors refer to a direct invasion of the chest wall by neoplasms located elsewhere in the body, mainly metastases from breast cancer and lung cancer. En-bloc surgical excision of the lesion should ensure ade

PURPOSE: Maffucci's syndrome is a nonhereditary congenital disorder associated with multiple enchondromas, soft tissue hemangiomas, or lymphangiomas. It carries an associated high risk of the development of malignant neoplasms, particularly sarcomatous transformation of an enchondroma, as well as other malignant mesodermal and nonmesodermal neoplasms. Hematopoietic malignancies arising in Maffucci's syndrome are exceedingly rare. We report the case of a 14-year-old girl with Maffucci's syndrome who developed acute lymphoid leukemia.

UNLABELLED: Specimens of twelve osteosarcomas, five chondrosarcomas, one giant-cell tumor, and five extraskeletal soft-tissue sarcomas were transplanted into male athymic nude (nu/nu) mice. Survival of the transplant was determined by the volume-doubling time and the sex chromatin of the tumor cells obtained from two female patients. By these criteria and the similarity of the histological composition of the original tumor and the transplant, survival occurred in four of twelve osteosarcomas and four of five chondrosarcomas. Without any local infiltration of lymphocytes or plasma cells, or oth

Diagnosis of systemic mastocytosis (SM) is mainly based on the morphological demonstration of compact mast cell infiltrates in various tissue sites. In almost all patients such infiltrates are detected in the bone marrow. Reliable immunohistochemical markers for the diagnosis and grading of SM have been established, but various differential diagnoses including myeloproliferative neoplasms, basophilic and eosinophilic leukemias may be very difficult to delineate. Even more challenging is the recognition of hematological neoplasms with signs of mast cell differentiation but not fulfilling diagno

Histiocytic sarcoma is a rare, but aggressive malignant neoplasm of monocyte/macrophage lineage with a wide age distribution. Bone involvement is exceedingly rarer compared to the lymph node, skin, and soft tissue, and no long bone involvement has been reported in the English literature. We here report 2 cases of histiocytic sarcoma involving the long bone: one from the femur of a 77-year-old female, status post the placement of an intramedullary nail for subtrochanteric hip fracture; the other from the radius of a 3-year-old female with no significant medical history. Electrochemotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment based on the principle of reversible electroporation of target cells in pathologic tissues in order to increase the local effect of chemotherapeutic agents. The mechanism of action relies on temporarily increasing cell permeability to increase the uptake of cytotoxic drugs in the intracellular space. Originally developed for the treatment of cutaneous malignancies, electrochemotherapy has significantly evolved over the past few decades, thanks to advancements in electrode design and image guidance, finding fertile ground in musculoskeletal

Cryoablation (CA) is an image-guided, minimally invasive technique that is gaining traction in the treatment of both benign and malignant soft tissue and bone tumors. This narrative review presents the current evidence supporting its clinical applications in both curative and palliative settings. In malignant tumors-including soft tissue sarcomas and bone metastases-cryoablation provides effective local control, particularly in cases of recurrence, inoperability, or metastatic disease, and enables chemotherapy-free intervals, contributing to improved quality of life. In benign lesions, such as

Giant cell tumor (GCT) is primarily a bone neoplasm. Rare origin of the tumor from soft tissues has been reported. Involvement of mediastinum by GCT is even rarer. We herein describe an interesting case of huge mediastinal tumor in a young man. Radiologically, no primary osseous lesion was present throughout the body. Morphologically, tumor resembles osseous GCT with increased mitotic activity. Hence, the case was diagnosed as soft tissue GCT of low malignant potential at the rare site of mediastinum. To the best of our knowledge, the present case is the fourth reported case. Pathologists and

Angiosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor of the soft tissues (less than 1% of sarcoma). It may affect various parenchymae (bones, liver, breast), the soft tissues or the skin. In the latter case it may be associated with lymphedema. Onset in the arm is typical with postmastectomy lymphedema (Stewart-Treves syndrome). The forms occurring in limbs with chronic lymphedema not associated with mastectomy are much rarer, with a total of 38 cases occurring in patients with an average age of 46.8 years and with lymphedema present for an average of 20 years. The survival rate for 5 years is 16.6%. The ca

Longstanding, severe hyperparathyroidism (HPT) can lead to the formation of "brown tumors". A brown tumor is a radiolucent bone lesion that is locally destructive; it is not a neoplasm, but rather a stromal mass consisting of fibrous tissue, poorly mineralized woven bone, and supporting vasculature. These tumors are a rare complication of advanced primary or secondary HPT. We present a young female with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis with uncontrolled secondary HPT (SHPT). The patient presented with progressive lower extremity weakness and back pain. CT imaging showed multiple ly

Schwannoma or neurilemmoma is a common soft tissue neoplasm arising from the neural sheath of Schwann cells. However, intraosseous schwannoma is rare, accounting for less than 0.2% of primary bone tumours. Several variants of schwannoma have been reported; among them, intraosseous schwannoma with ancient change is extremely rare. This current report presents an extremely rare case of ancient intraosseous neurilemmoma. The patient presented with right elbow pain and disability. A radiolucent, well-defined, lobulated lesion with a thin sclerotic rim in the proximal ulnar metaphysis that had caus

Osteochondromas, the most common benign bone tumor, are typically asymptomatic and discovered incidentally by imaging. Most frequently, osteochondromas occur at the metaphyses of long bones, and rarely involve the head and neck. We report the first case of a symptomatic osteochondroma of the temporal styloid process causing facial nerve paralysis.

Ameloblastic carcinoma is a malignant odontogenic neoplasm that has been reported only rarely in veterinary species. A 16-y-old Arabian crossbred mare was presented for evaluation of a hard mass on the body of the mandible, with evidence of osteolysis on radiographs. Incisional biopsies revealed an invasive neoplasm comprised of spindloid epithelial cells with a high mitotic count and partial dual cytokeratin-vimentin immunoreactivity. The horse was euthanized because of rapid tumor progression 3 mo after presentation. Postmortem evaluation revealed partial obliteration of the mandible by a la
