Background and Objectives: Persistent postoperative urinary leakage may delay recovery after percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). This study evaluated the association between postoperative drainage strategy, persistent urinary leakage, and clinical outcomes following prone PCNL. Materials and Methods: This retrospective, non-randomized cohort analysis included 606 consecutive eligible patients undergoing prone PCNL between 2015 and 2026 from a prospectively maintained institutional database. Patients received either an external ureteral catheter (n = 529) or primary antegrade double-J (DJ) ste

INTRODUCTION: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is associated with a significant risk for postoperative urinary tract infection (UTI) and sepsis. Prevention of post-PCNL UTI is dependent on appropriate antibiotic prophylaxis (AP), which relies on preoperative urine cultures. However, studies have demonstrated that preoperative urine cultures are not always concordant with stone cultures (SC), the latter most closely representing the bacterial burden. Accuracy of urine cultures is even more critical in the neurogenic bladder (NB) subpopulation, as they often have infected or infectious stones

Early prediction and diagnosis of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) following percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) are critical. This study aimed to investigate differences in clinical characteristics and the renal pelvis urobiome between patients with and without post-PCNL SIRS to identify potential predictive biomarkers. Patients undergoing unilateral PCNL were categorized into SIRS(+) and SIRS(-) groups based on postoperative SIRS status. Renal pelvis urine samples were collected for 2bRAD-M sequencing to profile the urobiome. Clinical data and urobiome composition were compared

BACKGROUND Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is indicated for large renal calculi (≥2 cm) and is often the treatment of choice due to its high success rate. Guidewire fragmentation is a rare procedural accident that can occur in PCNL but may be missed. Retention of the fragment within the upper urinary tract can lead to further complications, such as recurrent nephrolithiasis or impairment of renal function. CASE REPORT We present the case of a 54-year-old man who experienced right flank pain for 5 days. His history was significant for recurrent nephrolithiasis, managed by PCNL in other hosp

BACKGROUND: Following a percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) procedure, the most common complications are considered to be intraoperative and postoperative bleeding. Many patients with postoperative bleeding can be treated conservatively, causing the perirenal hematoma to resolve spontaneously. The major causes of severe postoperative bleeding are pseudoaneurysms, arteriovenous fistula, and segmental arterial injury. Typically, the first choice of treatment to manage severe bleeding complications is selective angioembolization (SAE) because of the very high success rate associated with this pro
