Safety and nutritional value of a dried killed bacterial biomass from Escherichia coli (FERM BP-10942) (PT73 (TM)) as a feed material for pigs, ruminants and salmonids.

PT73 (TM) is a dried, heat-inactivated bacterial biomass used as a feed material produced from an Escherichia coli K-12 strain, which was genetically modified to overproduce threonine. The recipient organism E. coli MG 1655 is considered to be safe. The traits introduced in the final modified strain E. coli FERM BP-10942 are mainly limited to the overproduction of threonine. No full-length antibiotic resistance genes or other sequences of concern remain in the modified strain. In conclusion, the EFSA Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP): does not identify

A threshold value of estimated glomerular filtration rate that predicts changes in serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels: 4th Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey 2008.

BACKGROUND: Vitamin D deficiency is known as an important risk factor for mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Nevertheless, the association of renal function itself with vitamin D status or serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) level has not been investigated thoroughly. METHODS: We examined the association between the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and serum 25OHD levels using data from the 4th Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey 2008. Generalized additive models (GAMs) were used to examine the relationship between eGFR and serum 25OHD leve

Interface of Climate and Environmental Change on Food Systems-A Report from the "Agriculture and Diet: Value Added for Nutrition, Translation, and Adaptation in a Global Ecology" (ADVANTAGE) Project Working Group 3.

As the climate changes, investigation at the intersection of climate and food systems is critical to understand broader impacts on human nutrition and health. This work seeks to 1) identify reciprocal interactions of climate and environmental change (CEC) and food systems, 2) illuminate research gaps in CEC interactions with food systems, and 3) identify paths to respond to and mitigate the impact of CEC on food systems. We discuss CEC and food system interactions via 4 pathways. Food systems are influenced by CEC through shifting climate normals and altered instances of extreme events. The ph

Clinical value of the prognostic nutritional index and red blood cell distribution width-to-albumin ratio for the prediction of severity of and mortality associated with Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis.

The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and red blood cell distribution width-to-albumin ratio (RAR) are considered to be related to the prognosis of disease severity. However, the role of these biomarkers in predicting Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN) severity and mortality is unclear. The aim of the current study was to investigate the association of PNI and RAR with severity and mortality in individuals with SJS/TEN. Clinical data were retrospectively collected from 74 individuals with SJS/TEN and 74 healthy individuals, who were matched for age and sex during th
