Dimensions of Warm Parenting Attributions Differentiate Conduct Problem Subtypes in Young Children.

Understanding the developmental psychopathology of child conduct problems (CP) has been advanced by differentiating subtypes based on levels … iants attributed fewer good and altruistic intentions towards others in their child, relative to CP-only children. Subtypes were undifferentiated on observed positive and negative parenting behaviors, indicative of a disconnect between parenting behaviors and cognitions for mothers of children high on CU traits. Findings are discussed in relation to their th …

Double simultaneous intussusception caused by Meckel's diverticulum and intestinal duplication in a child.

Intussusception is common in children. Double simultaneous intussusception is a peculiar variety of intussusception with only 14 previously reported cases. We report a unique case of a child who suffered from double simultaneous intussusception with two lead points (Meckel's diverticulum and intestinal duplication). The patient was successfully treated with manual reduction along with resection of Meckel's diverticulum and intestinal duplication. The child recovered well.

Chondrodysplasia punctata. Report of parent-to-child transmission.

A family with chondrodysplasia punctata of the Conradi-Hünermann type is presented. The diagnosis was not made on the affected child who died after orthopaedic surgery for the complications of the condition. The mother had undoubted stigmata of the disease, and a previous child, who died shortly after birth, might also have had the condition. Sound genetic counselling could only be offered after accurate diagnosis was made.

The association of parental or caregiver alcohol use with child maltreatment: A systematic review and meta-analysis of longitudinal studies.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Caregiver alcohol use is a risk factor for child maltreatment, but a previous meta-analysis was limited to physical abuse only. We aimed to quantify the association of parental or caregiver alcohol use with child maltreatment and assess if this differs by incidence or recurrence of maltreatment and level of caregiver alcohol use. METHODS: We undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis of longitudinal studies according to a registered protocol on PROSPERO (CRD42020211585). We searched the databases MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, CINAHL and the Cochrane Library in N

The differential predictive utility of two caregiver-targeted self-efficacy measures to promote oral health of underserved children.

OBJECTIVE: Oral health self-efficacy is a modifiable determinant of early childhood caries, which is one of the most prevalent childhood diseases. Yet, two common measures of self-efficacy (i.e., context-specific and behavior-specific) lack validation and clarity in the prediction of children's oral health behaviors. This study examined the psychometric properties of two caregiver oral health self-efficacy measures and investigated the predictive ability and age-varying effects of caregiver oral health self-efficacy on child oral health behaviors. METHOD: In this secondary data analysis of ca

Sarcopenia and two types of presarcopenia in Japanese patients with chronic liver disease.

BACKGROUND/AIM: The frequency of sarcopenia, defined as loss of both muscle volume and strength, was analyzed in chronic liver disease (CLD). METHODS AND MATERIALS: From April to September 2015, 807 Japanese CLD patients treated as outpatients were enrolled (67.1±10.0 years, men : women=466 : 341, hepatitis C virus : hepatitis B virus : hepatitis B and C virus : alcohol : other=511 : 134 : 3 : 45 : 114). Sarcopenia was diagnosed when the patient showed muscle volume loss and reduced handgrip strength, whereas those with only muscle volume loss were classified as 'v-presarcopenia' and those wi

Assessment of Selected Aspects of the Quality of Life of Children with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in Poland.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) is, next to obesity and asthma, the most common chronic disease in children in Poland. T1D is not only a medical challenge, but it also affects all areas of a sick child's life and family functionality. New forms of therapy facilitate the daily management of the disease, but their availability is limited and partly dependent on socioeconomic status. This study aimed to assess the incidence and interrelationships between the child's health condition and the applied therapy model, and selected aspects of the child's family functionality and access to health and car

The importance of laboratory re-evaluation in cases of suspected child abuse - A case report.

In order to accurately diagnose child abuse or neglect, a physician needs to be familiar with diseases and medical conditions that can simulate maltreatment. Unrecognized cases of abuse may lead to insufficient child protection, whereas, on the other hand, over-diagnosis could be the cause of various problems for the family and their potentially accused members. Regarding child abuse, numerous cases of false diagnoses with undetected causes of bleeding are described in the scientific literature, but, specifically concerning leukemia in childhood, only very few case reports exist. Here, for the

Perforated peptic ulcer in pregnancy with survival of mother and child: case report and review of the literature.

Peptic ulcer in pregnancy and its complications, though rare, can be life-threatening to mother and fetus. Perforated peptic ulcer in pregnancy is extremely rare; when this occurs survival of both mother and child is unusual. Only five cases of maternal survival following perforation of a peptic ulcer have previously been recorded and, of these, only three were associated with survival of both mother and infant. The authors report an additional case of perforated ulcer in pregnancy with survival of mother and infant, and review the relevant literature. Early surgical diagnosis and treatment fo

Incomplete Kawasaki disease with muscular weakness and bladder retention: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute systemic immune vasculitis affecting multiple organs and systems in children, and is prevalent in children under 5 years of age. Muscular weakness is a rare manifestation of KD, and only 11 pediatric patients with KD combined with muscular weakness have been reported, of which evidence of myositis was found in 2/3 of the patients, and 1/3 could not be explained by myositis, the mechanism of which is still unclear. Cases of KD combined with bladder retention are even more rare, and there has been only 1 case report of KD combined with bladder retent

Each Child Matters: Contributing Factors to Speech-Language Pathologists' Perceptions of Stuttering Therapy.

PURPOSE: Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) often report feeling less confident treating children who stutter. Yet, prior research has focused on SLPs' perceptions of groups, rather than an individual child who stutters. The aim of this study was to assess SLPs' perceptions of the therapy they provide to an individual child who stutters and to identify key factors underlying these perceptions. METHOD: A total of 115 SLPs rated their general experience, knowledge, and confidence related to stuttering treatment and rated how well they perceived therapy to be going for an individual child who s

Factors associated with social support in child-rearing among mothers in post-disaster communities.

BACKGROUND: Natural disasters have long-term negative impacts on the health and socioenvironmental conditions of a population, affecting the physical environment as well as the relationships within the community, including social networks. Mothers in post-disaster communities may have difficulty receiving social support not only from family members and relatives but also from members of their community, such as people in their neighborhoods. This study focused on mothers with infants and preschool-aged children in post-disaster communities. The associations of social support with sociodemograp

Parent and Child Agreement of Brain Injury Perceptions Following Pediatric Concussion.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the agreement of parent and child responses to the Brain Injury Perception Scale (BIPS), a modified version of the Illness Perceptions Questionnaire-Revised, following a pediatric concussion. METHOD: This was a cross-sectional study of 88 parent-child dyads who completed the BIPS at their initial visit to a specialty concussion clinic within 30 days following pediatric (11-18 years of age) concussion. Descriptive statistics were calculated, followed by Spearman's rho (ρ), which assessed parent-child item consistency. Cross-tab tables were used to understand the directi

Mindful Parenting, Caregiver Distress, and Conduct Problems in Children With Autism.

Children with autism may display an externalizing problem behavior, which are associated with increased parenting stress and depression in caregivers. Mindful parenting is defined as having a non-judgmental moment-to-moment awareness during caregiver-child interactions. The extant literature is mixed, with some reporting that associations between child problem behavior and parenting stress and depression vary by level of mindful parenting, while others have not found these relations. We sought to extend these explorations. Participants who were caregivers of 75 children with autism spectrum di

Individual and familial predictors of impairment in childhood anxiety disorders.

OBJECTIVE: To determine which correlates of childhood anxiety disorders are predictive of impaired functioning as judged by clinicians. METHOD: Seventy-four families of children with anxiety disorders attending a hospital outpatient clinic completed questionnaires measuring child symptoms of anxiety and depression, maternal psychopathology, maternal ratings of child psychopathology, and developmental and environmental difficulties. Clinicians completed the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) for each child, and correlations between it and the other measures were ascertained. RESULTS: Mate
