Bilateral ureteral inverted papillomas in association with bladder carcinoma: a case report and review of the literature.

A case of multiple inverted papillomas of both ureters, in association with a bladder carcinoma, is presented. Inverted papilloma is a rare benign urothelial tumor. Because of its curability by conservative surgery, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a ureteral filling defect and ureteral obstruction. Inverted papilloma may be associated with carcinomas of the urinary tract.

[Inverted type urothelial cell bladder papillomas. Three new cases (author's transl)].

The authors report 3 new cases of inverted bladder papillomas, the first presenting with hematuria and the others at the time of urological examination for dysuria due to prostatic hypertrophy. Intravenous urography showed the tumour as a regular polycyclic filling defect of the base of the bladder. Macroscopically, such tumours are polypoid, whitish-grey and firm in consistency. Histologically, they are surrounded by a thin paramalpighian epithelium from which there is deep penetration of layers of tumour with an intact basal membrane and well differentiated paramalpighian type tumour cells w

Metallothionein 2A core promoter region genetic polymorphism and its impact on the risk, tumor behavior, and recurrences of sinonasal inverted papilloma (Schneiderian papilloma).

Inverted papillomas are a unique group of locally aggressive benign epithelial neoplasms in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses arising from the Schneiderian mucosa. Metallothioneins are sulfhydryl-rich heavy metal-binding proteins required for metal toxicity protection and regulation of biological mechanisms including proliferation and invasion. The goal of this study was to identify three SNPs at loci -5 A/G (rs28366003) and -209 A/G (rs1610216) in the core promoter region and at locus +838 C/G (rs10636) in 3'UTR region of the MT2A gene with IP risk and with tumor invasiveness according t

Challenging Nasal Pathologies: An Inverted Nasal Papilloma Case Series Illustrating Diagnostic Challenges and Management Strategies.

The sinonasal inverted papilloma is a benign tumor located in the sinuses lining the nasal cavity. It is a very rare tumor, representing approximately 4% of all sinonasal tumors. The incidence of sinonasal inverted papilloma is higher in males than females and is most commonly diagnosed in the 5th decade of life. Four separate cases of sinonasal pathology involving inverted papillomas are presented in this case series. The first clinical case presents a 68-year-old man with persistent nasal symptoms, who was found to have a sinonasal papilloma, which was successfully removed surgically. In the

Surgical Management of a Recurrent Orbit-Eroding Mucocele Associated With Frontal-Ethmoidal Sinus Inverted Papilloma.

The development of orbit-eroding mucocele associated with inverted papilloma has been rarely reported., Here, the authors present a case and surgical management of a patient with orbit-eroding mucocele associated with inverted papilloma who declined craniotomy. A combined approach utilizing frontal endoscopic sinus surgery and external sub-brow anterior orbitotomy was used to explore, drain, and excise the mucocele and inverted papilloma. Gelatin sponges soaked in gentamicin were used to cover the exposed dura and to protect the orbital content from the frontal sinus cavity.A fronto-ethmoidal

Origin site-based staging system of sinonasal inverted papilloma for application to endoscopic sinus surgery.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to assess the recurrence risk of sinonasal inverted papillomas (SNIPs), based on a staging system developed according to the originating site of SNIP. METHODS: A total of 200 patients with SNIP were enrolled, and a staging system was developed based on the originating sites and corresponding recurrence rates of tumor in the patients. In the verification phase, 675 patients with SNIPs were enrolled as above, and the originating sites of the SNIPs were confirmed by an endoscopic sinus surgery. Cluster analysis was performed to determine the stage for each SNIP. RESULTS: Ov

Different characteristics of a single sinonasal inverted papilloma from sequential PET-CT: A case report.

RATIONALE: Inverted papilloma (IP) is a benign tumor that should be monitored carefully because it frequently recurs and has the potential to become malignant. PATIENT CONCERNS: We report a case of a 59-year-old woman who presented with a mass which had been found incidentally on positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET CT). DIAGNOSES: Using endoscopy and CT, the preoperative diagnosis was inverted papilloma. PET CT showed a mass with hot uptake in the left ethmoid and frontal sinus (maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) = 7.80). INTERVENTIONS: We performed endoscopic sinu

Inverted papilloma of urinary bladder: is long-term cystoscopic surveillance needed? A single center's experience.

OBJECTIVES: To review all cases of urinary bladder inverted papilloma (IP) in our institution and determine the need for cystoscopic surveillance. IP is an uncommon benign tumor of the urinary tract. Its multiplicity, recurrence, and association with transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) suggest possible malignant potential, leading to conflicting clinical conclusions regarding the need for surveillance. METHODS: All consecutive patients from January 1991 to December 2004 with IP were included in this study. A single pathologist performed the histologic review. The patients had undergone cystosco

Narrow Band Imaging Improves Endoscopic Differentiation of Inverted Papillomas From Nasal Polyps.

OBJECTIVE: Differentiating inverted papillomas (IPs) from nasal polyps (NPs) using white-light endoscopy (WLE) can be challenging, despite their distinct management and prognoses. Narrow-band imaging (NBI) enhances visualization of mucosal microvasculature and may improve the diagnostic accuracy of sinonasal endoscopy. This study evaluated the usefulness of NBI in differentiating IPs from NPs based on mucosal microvasculature patterns. METHODS: This retrospective study included 94 patients with histologically confirmed sinonasal lesions (61 NPs and 33 IPs) who underwent preoperative WLE and N

The Role of Inverted Papilloma Surgical Removal for Sleep Apnea Treatment Success-A Case Report.

In recent years, increased attention has been directed to sleep apnea syndrome due to its high prevalence and preventable severe health consequences. Besides enhancing the risk of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and metabolic disorders, it determines increased daytime somnolence, cognitive impairment, and delayed reaction time. These symptoms, determined by sleep fragmentation and chronic hypoxemia, can result in a decrease in professional performance and, moreover, could have tragic implications, especially in patients with high-risk professions. We present the case of a 58-year-old male-tru

A Short-Term Efficacy of Anlotinib in the Treatment of Refractory Nasopharyngeal Inverted Papilloma: A Case Report.

To our knowledge, no studies have reported the use of anlotinib in the treatment of locally cancerous nasopharyngeal inverted papillomas that cannot be operated on or treated with radiotherapy. Here, we report a case of a 53-year-old woman diagnosed with recurrent local canceration of nasopharynx papilloma. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed that the right parapharyngeal space, nasopharynx, and ethmoid sinus were changed, and recurrence was considered. There was no indication for surgery or radiotherapy. Imaging showed that the tumor had obvious enhancement and abundant blood vessels. Imm
