INTRODUCTION: Mastectomy for breast cancer may bring the patient to develop long term issues concerning the psychological and physical status. Immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) should be considered and proposed by physicians as an integrated procedure in the surgical approach to breast cancer to reduce further surgery. OBJECTIVE: We have performed an original aortic valve reconstruction using autologous pericardium. The feasibility for patients aged less than 60 years is reviewed.
METHODS: From April 2007 to April 2013, aortic valve reconstruction was performed in 108 patients aged less than 60 years. A total of 51 patients had aortic stenosis, 7 patients had annuloaortic ectasia, 7 patients had infective endocarditis, and 43 patients had aortic regurgitation. Cardiac tamponade due to tuberculosis is a well-known complication. However, acute erosion of TB lymphadenitis and its caseous material into the pericardium causing pericardial tamponade is rare. We describe a case of extensive mediastinal tubercular lymph node mass in which the caseous necrotic material found its way into pericardial sac causing acute pyopericardium and cardiac tamponade.

We report a rare case of intraoperative ventricular fibrillation (VF) induced by electrocautery conduction to the pericardium during lung cancer surgery. A 59-year-old man underwent thoracoscopic left lower lobectomy. During dissection of the pulmonary ligament using an electric scalpel in coagulation mode( 30 W), the tip contacted the pericardium, resulting in VF. BACKGROUND: Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a rare parasitic disease caused by the larva of Echinococcus multilocularis. It nearly always occurs in the liver, and cardiac involvement is extremely rare. Liver resection is the most effective intervention for AE because the only potentially curative treatment is removal of the lesion. Even when complete resection is not performed, long-term survival can be expected after surgical removal of most of the lesion with lifelong administration of albendazole (ABZ).
