This section aims to provide a translational medicine forum for the publication of research on illnesses, multisystem diseases and syndromes of unknown etiology. Examples of these include Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia Syndrome.

PURPOSE: To determine the efficiency of three computerized bibliographic databases in retrieving literature relevant to the chiropractor.
METHODS: A cross-sectional design was used. English-language citations from 1990-92, on the topics of scoliosis, sciatica and neck pain, were searched in CHIROLARS, Index to Chiropractic Literature (ICL) and MEDLINE. Citations were assessed for relevance criteria by two assessors; a third assessor was used when both were unsure of relevance. Inter- and intraexaminer reliability of the relevance assessments was determined using the weighted Kappa statistic.

This randomized clinical trial aimed to compare the efficacy of topical aloe vera with low-level laser therapy in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP). A randomized, parallel arm, single-blind study comprising of 60 patients with OLP was randomly divided into two groups. The CAse REport (CARE) Statement and Checklist represents consensus-based guidelines for clinical case reports. How well case reports adhere to these guidelines is unknown.

Topical imiquimod 5% cream (Aldara) is an immune response modulator that is indicated for the treatment of external anogenital warts, superficial basal cell carcinoma and actinic keratoses. Six patients with persistent corneal epithelial defects that failed to improve with standard therapy were treated with topical fibronectin in a phase I uncontrolled trial. Fibronectin was purified from autologous plasma by affinity chromatography and administered topically, 0.5 mg/ml five times a day, for three weeks.
