The economic value of Brassica juncea var. tumida depends on the yield and quality of its swollen stem (known as Qingcaitou). However, the frequent lodging of the stem base during early swelling causes the plant to grow prostrate, severely limiting mechanical harvesting. This data paper presents a transcriptome dataset constructed primarily from RNA-seq data, supplemented by histological, physiological, biochemical, and molecular validation data, to compare the initial development between the swollen stem and the non-swollen basal stem (root-stem node). The core components of this dataset incl

Salt stress can markedly alter seedling architecture, creating a need for non-destructive three-dimensional (3D) phenotyping methods capable of resolving fine plant structures. However, organ-level segmentation of plant point clouds remains challenging because of leaf overlap, slender stems, ambiguous stem-leaf boundaries, and severe class imbalance. In this study, we developed PTV-SegCo, a task-adapted Point Transformer model for organ segmentation and structural phenotyping of coriander seedlings under salt stress. PTV-SegCo integrates efficient channel attention, gated shallow-deep feature

Tea (Camellia sinensis L.) flavor is a major determinant of consumer preference and market value, yet the heterogeneous metabolic profiles of tea shoot tissues complicate quality prediction and limit precision control in production. This review systematically proposes a spatial flavor metabolism framework for the tea shoot, with the aim of elucidating coordinated metabolic mechanisms among its different tissues. By integrating cutting-edge empirical evidence from plant physiology and flavor chemistry, we map the tissue-specific metabolic roles of trichomes, buds, leaves, and stems within the t

Stone crushing processes release particulates and associated noxious substances in our surroundings that are continuously destructing environmental conditions and ecosystem health. Morpho-anatomical changes in some medicinally important native species (Aerva javanica, Calotropis procera, Digera muricata, Euphorbia prostrata, Euploca strigosa, and Peganum harmala) exposed to heavy dust pollution were evaluated. These species selected on the basis of their ubiquitous distribution in the area. Two sites were selected in the Kirana Hills, Sargodha, one near stone crushers within 500-m radius (poll

Rice viral diseases adversely affect crop yield and quality. Most rice viruses are transmitted through insect vectors. However, the traditional whole-plant inoculation method cannot control the initial inoculation site in rice plants because the insect feeding sites in plants are random. To solve this problem, we established a determined-part inoculation approach in this study that restricted the insect feeding sites to specific parts of the rice plant. Rice stripe virus (RSV) was used as the model virus and was inoculated at the bottom of the stem using our method. Quantitative real-time PCR

Sporamin, a tuberous storage protein of sweet potato, was systemically expressed in leaves and stems by wound stimulation. In an effort to demonstrate the regulatory mechanism of wound response on the sporamin gene, a 1.25 kb sporamin promoter was isolated for studying the wound-induced signal transduction. Two wound response-like elements, a G box-like element and a GCC core-like sequence were found in this promoter. A construct containing the sporamin promoter fused to a beta-glucuronidase (GUS) gene was transferred into tobacco plants by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The wound-indu

The penetration of Y. pestis (strain EV) into the stem of Impatiens walleriana via its roots, submerged into microbial suspension, was observed under experimental conditions. This was indicative of the colonization of plants by Y. pestis, thus confirming the possibility of their preservation in plants during periods between epizootics at the territories of natural foci.

Liangmianzhen(Zanthoxyli Radix) has long been used as medicine. The current medicinal parts are different from those in the ancient. As recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopeia, the medicinal part is root. However, in ancient works, the medicinal parts include root, stem, leaf, and fruit. In an attempt to find the historical basis that stem is a reasonable medicinal part, the herbalogical study was carried out on this medicinal based on the formal names, synonyms, original plant, medicinal parts, habitat of the medicinal plant, producing area, processing and preparation methods, efficacy, and indi

Adhatoda vasica Nees (Acanthaceae), an ayurvedic shrub, is used widely in respiratory disorders. The pharmacologically most studied phytoconstituent in A. vasica is vasicine, a bitter quinazoline alkaloid present in leaves. A robust method was developed for the simultaneous quantification and analysis of two major alkaloids i.e. vasicine and vasicinone by RP-HPLC. This paper describes the distribution of these markers in different parts of the plant along with the best extraction method for their recovery. The highest abundance of vasicine was observed in the leaves (0.7332%), than in the stem

Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) is one of the primary PAEs (phthalate acid esters) pollutants. DBP can be absorbed by plants and threaten human health via the food chain. Some DBP-degrading bacteria have been successfully isolated from the environment (water, soil, etc.). However, only a few DBP-degrading plant endophytes have been isolated. In this study, an endophytic bacterium, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens subsp. strain JR20, which was found capable of degrading DBP, was isolated from garlic chive. We found that strain JR20 metabolized 89.74% of DBP at a 5 mg/L concentration within 4 d in liquid m

BACKGROUND: Andrographis paniculata is a self-pollinating medicinal plant with limited natural genetic diversity, which restricts the development of improved cultivars with desirable agronomic traits and stable accumulation of key bioactive compounds, particularly andrographolide (AP1). To overcome this limitation, ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) mutagenesis was applied to native Thai germplasm to induce phenotypic and phytochemical variation and to generate novel genetic resources for breeding improvement and gene function analysis. RESULTS: Optimal EMS treatment conditions (1.0% and 1.5% EMS fo
