Three patients with plasma cell leukemia are reported. Two of them has a previous history of myeloma; the third one started with a plasma cell leukemia. Diagnosis was made from the required presence of 20% plasma cells in the peripheral blood. A patient presented with plasma cell leukaemia and was found to have an IgE secreting multiple myeloma. IgE myeloma is very rare with only 18 cases recorded. However, this case is the fifth recorded of IgE myeloma associated with plasma cell leukaemia. Since plasma cell leukaemia only occurs in 1.6% of all cases of myeloma, it seems certain that this is a significant association.

Cervical biopsy specimens were obtained from 50 controls and 50 women attending an infertility clinic. Sections were cut and stained, by a direct immunofluorescent technique, with fluorescein-labelled sheep antihuman IgA, antihuman IgM, and antihuman IgG in an attempt to show a difference between the two groups. A significant increase in the number of plasma cells containing IgA was found in many of those infertile women in whom no other abnormality could be detected.

Clonotypic B cells have been proposed as a potential disease reservoir in multiple myeloma and light-chain amyloidosis, but Gonzalez and colleagues demonstrate that they do not necessarily share the malignant potential of disease clones.
