Disorders of the 8th cranial nerve such as sensori-neural hearing loss, tinnitus or vertigo may be of vascular origin. Small solitary or multiple cystic lesions were found in the hemispheres of 3.6% of all patients suffering from cerebrovascular disorders, seizures, system degeneration or skull or brain injuries who were examined by PEG. Such lesions were especially frequent in patients in their forties to sixties. The absence of corresponding changes in the results of electroencephalographic, scintillation scanning and angiographic examination makes PEG an indispensable tool for prognosis in such cases.

We have described a patient with a history of central nervous system lupus who had obstructive hydrocephalus secondary to stenosis of the aqueduct of Sylvius. The course of this patient's neurologic disease suggest that the obstruction was caused by a post-inflammatory lesion of CNS lupus. This report illustrates the importance of a complete neurologic evaluation of a patient with SLE who has CNS dysfunction.

A retrospective study of the records of 93 patients who had sustained a severe closed head injury was carried out to determine the relationship, if any, between the severity of the injury, the size of the cerebral ventricles and the residual disability. The anatomical and embryological facets of the persistent craniopharyngeal canal combined with a meningoencephalocele are reviewed, and the case of a 6 year old girl is reported. Postnatal dyspnea and cyanosis improved after perforation of nasopharyngeal cyst, and adenoidectomy was performed at the age of 8 months. The second episode of meningitis led to its radiological assessment and correct diagnosis. Surgical treatment is limited because the location of the pituitary in this child is not known.

Hydrocephalus complicated the clinical course of four patients with pituitary adenoma. In three it was noted late, long after surgical intervention and radiotherapy had been carried out. In one patient, hydrocephalus was part of the presenting syndrome. The differential diagnosis of hypopituitarism and occult hydrocephalus is difficult. The possibility of hydrocephalus complicating a pituitary adenoma constitutes another indication for arteriography before carrying out definitive treatment, or should the clinical course be unsatisfactory at any time.
