Clinical outcome of fiber post and fiber-reinforced resin composite for the full crowns of anterior endodontically treated teeth: a 5-year randomized clinical trial.

AIM: To compare the outcome of short fiber reinforced composites, as a core material, with respect to conventional fiber post, for the reconstruction of anterior endodontically treated teeth (ETT), covered by a lithium disilicate crown. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients in need of endodontic treatment and a single-unit full crown restoration for anterior teeth (incisors or canines) were recruited. Only teeth with >50% of residual tooth structure were included. The teeth were required to be in occlusal function with a natural antagonist tooth and in interproximal contact with two adjacent natura

Multidisciplinary treatment approach to restore deep horizontally fractured maxillary central incisor.

This case report demonstrates sequential periodontic, orthodontic and prosthodontic treatment modalities to save and restore deep horizontally fractured maxillary central incisor. The location of fracture was deep in the mucosa which reveals less than 2 mm of tooth structure to receive the crown. The procedures like surgical crown lengthening, endodontic post placement, orthodontic forced eruption, core build-up and metal-ceramic crown restoration were sequentially performed to conserve the fractured tooth. Forced eruption is preferred to surgical removal of supporting alveolar bone, since for

Biomechanical behaviour of a fractured maxillary incisor restored with direct composite resin only or with different post systems.

AIM: To compare stress distribution between a fractured maxillary central incisor restored with direct composite resin only (CR) or associated with different post materials, using finite element analysis. METHODOLOGY: A three-dimensional model of a sound maxillary central incisor and supporting structures was constructed, using data from the dental literature. Changes were made in the crown region to create a tooth with a restored crown fracture. A composite resin restoration only and restorations associated with different tapered post systems (glass fibre, carbon fibre, titanium and zirconia

Multidisciplinary approach to the rehabilitation of a crown fracture with glass-fibre-reinforced composite: a case report.

Traumatic tooth injuries are common in children. When permanent teeth are involved, it can be a challenge to save these teeth. This clinical case study describes the multidisciplinary treatment of a complex crown fracture and luxation of a right maxillary incisor along with esthetic management. After periodontal surgery including guided bone regeneration and endodontic treatment, we used a glass-fibre-reinforced composite post to increase retention and distribute stress along the root. The restoration was completed using composite in an incremental technique. During follow-up appointments, cli

Hemorrhagic Myocardial Infarction and Intramyocardial Hemorrhage: From Microvascular Damage to Emerging Therapeutic Targets.

Intramyocardial hemorrhage (IMH) is a severe form of post-ischemic microvascular injury that may occur after myocardial infarction, particularly in the setting of extensive ischemia and reperfusion. IMH is closely related to microvascular obstruction (MVO), larger infarct size, impaired left-ventricular (LV) function, and adverse clinical outcomes. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), especially susceptibility-sensitive techniques such as T2* or R2* mapping, enables in vivo detection of hemorrhagic microvascular injury and may refine post-MI risk stratification. Mechanistic and translation

Predicting graft and patient outcomes following kidney transplantation using interpretable machine learning models.

The decision to accept a deceased donor organ offer for transplant, or wait for something potentially better in the future, can be challenging. Clinical decision support tools predicting transplant outcomes are lacking. This project uses interpretable methods to predict both graft failure and patient death using data from previously accepted kidney transplant offers. Using more than 25 years of transplant outcome data, we train and compare several survival analysis models in single risk settings. In addition, we use post hoc interpretability techniques to clinically validate these models. Neur

Determinants of Pneumothorax and Alveolar Hemorrhage After CT-Guided Lung Biopsy.

Background/Objectives: CT-guided transthoracic core needle biopsy (CT-TTNB) is the standard technique for histological characterization of pulmonary lesions, yet it carries a 15-42% rate of pneumothorax and a 5-27% rate of alveolar hemorrhage. Accurate identification of modifiable and non-modifiable procedural determinants is essential for pre-procedural risk stratification, technique optimization, and post-procedural care. Methods: We conducted a single-centre retrospective cohort study of 240 consecutive CT-TTNB procedures performed between November 2023 and January 2025. The variables were

The multimodal Ganzfeld-induced altered state of consciousness induces decreased thalamo-cortical coupling.

Different pharmacologic agents have been used to investigate the neuronal underpinnings of alterations in consciousness states, such as psychedelic substances. Special attention has been drawn to the role of thalamic filtering of cortical input. Here, we investigate the neuronal mechanisms underlying an altered state of consciousness (ASC) induced by a non-pharmacological procedure. During fMRI scanning, N = 19 human participants were exposed to multimodal Ganzfeld stimulation, a technique of perceptual deprivation where participants are exposed to intense, unstructured, homogenous visual and

Hierarchically Structured Cellulose Acetate@Silk Protein Membrane with Enhanced Mechanical and Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Performances.

Compared to conventional fibers, electrospun porous nanofibers with hierarchical structures often involve additional active sites, interfaces, and internal spaces which boost the performances of functional materials. Here in this study, coaxial composite cellulose acetate@silk fibroin (CA@SF) fibrous membranes are constructed through an electrostatic spinning technique combining solvent-induced phase separation. Hierarchical core-shell structures on the fibers are achieved, which significantly increases the surface area and benefits the mechanical property, flux, as well as the electroless dep

Research trends and hotspots in post-stroke speech rehabilitation: A bibliometric analysis.

BACKGROUND: With the global population aging, the incidence of stroke is rising, often resulting in motor dysfunction, speech disorders, and swallowing difficulties, significantly affecting daily life and social participation. Speech and language disorders notably impair communication and restrict social engagement, making speech rehabilitation a critical intervention. However, comprehensive bibliometric analyses on post-stroke language rehabilitation are limited, restricting understanding of progress in this field. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify hotspots and trends in post-stroke sp

Electron microscopic detection of statherin in secretory granules of human major salivary glands.

In order to increase current knowledge regarding statherin secretion into the oral cavity, ultrastructural localization of this peptide was investigated in human salivary glands by using a post-embedding immunogold staining technique. Statherin reactivity was found inside the granules of serous cells of parotid and submandibular glands. In parotid granules immunostaining was preferentially present in the less electron-dense region, whereas in submandibular serous granules the reactivity was uniform and the dense core always stained. By contrast, none or weak reactivity was observed in serous c

Imagery rescripting within cognitive behavior therapy for bulimia nervosa: an illustrative case report.

OBJECTIVE: This case report describes the use of imagery rescripting as an adjunct to cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) for bulimia nervosa. METHODS: The patient was a 22-year-old woman, who had a 6-year history of diagnosable eating problems, with no comorbid diagnosis. She had a history of emotional abuse by her family. The single session of imagery rescripting was aimed at effecting change in the core beliefs that were hypothesized to result from that emotional abuse, and hence in the associated bulimic psychopathology. RESULTS: While eight sessions of conventional CBT reduced symptom beha

Light and electron microscopy imaging unveils new aspects of the antiviral capacity of silver nanoparticles in bunyavirus-infected cells.

Drug repurposing is an important source of new antivirals because many compounds used to treat a variety of pathologies also hamper viral infections. Habitually, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been used to treat bacterial and fungal infections and their antiviral properties have been also reported. In this work, we have studied the antiviral capacity of AgNPs in cells infected with Bunyamwera virus (BUNV), the prototype of the Bunyavirales order. This group of viruses contains important pathogens for humans, animals and plants. Incubation of BUNV-infected Vero cells with non-toxic concentra
