OBJECTIVES: Central precocious puberty (CPP) can present as either slowly progressing CPP (SP-CPP) or rapidly progressing CPP (RP-CPP). The speed of progression is critical in determining treatment decisions. This study aims to compare the clinical data between patients who received treatment and those who did not, and to identify factors that may influence the progression in cases of RP-CPP.
METHODS: This single-center retrospective observational study includes 406 female patients aged 5-8 years who were followed for CPP at the pediatric endocrinology clinic between 2021 and 2023. The patien

BACKGROUND/AIMS: There are few studies in the literature that have evaluated the etiological factors in boys with central precocious puberty (CPP), and these studies are limited in terms of the sample size. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the etiological factors in male CPP cases.
METHODS: One hundred male CPP subjects, aged between 9 months and 10.5 years, were included. The medical records were screened, and age at diagnosis, bone age, body weight, height, pubertal stage, imaging findings of the pituitary gland, testosterone, and basal and stimulated gonadotropin levels were reco

Central precocious puberty is characterized by premature activation of the hypothalamic gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) pulse generator, resulting in accelerated growth and bone maturation with clinical signs of gonadarche before the age of 8 years in girls and 9 years in boys. In rapidly progressing central precocious puberty, the plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) response to exogenous GnRH exceeds the reference range for sex and stage of puberty, and the ratio of LH:follicle-stimulating hormone after GnRH is usually above 1. Short adult stature, with unfavourable body proportions, i.e.

Central precocious puberty (CPP) is characterized by the early onset of secondary sexual characteristics caused by premature activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. CPP can result in short stature, reproductive health complications, and psychosocial challenges. The rising prevalence of CPP underscores the urgency of investigating the genetic and dietary factors that influence its development to reduce long-term health and developmental effects. CPP was diagnosed in 481 participants. Aspartame, sucralose, glycyrrhizin, and added sugars were significantly linked to increased CPP r

INTRODUCTION: Factors favouring the secular trend of decreasing average age of puberty include eating habits, environmental endocrine disruptors, genetics, stress and lifestyle. The association between higher BMI and timing and tempo of puberty has long been documented in the general population but data for children with precocious puberty are poor.
AIMS: To evaluate the relationship between the role of weight gain in the first years of life on the onset of central precocious puberty.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We analyzed the data of 120 Caucasian girls diagnosed with CPP between May 2020 and Ma

PURPOSE: Single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers within LIN28B have been reported to be related to the timing of pubertal growth. However, no study has investigated the frequency of genetic markers in girls with precocious puberty (PP) or early puberty (EP). This study aimed to determine the frequency of putative genetic markers in girls with PP or EP.
METHODS: Genomic DNAs were obtained from 77 and 109 girls that fulfilled the criteria for PP and EP, respectively. The controls in this study were 144 healthy volunteers between 20 and 30 years of age. The haplotypes were reconstructed usi

This review describes several aspects of the management of precocious puberty (PP) and variants in girls and boys. PP is characterized by early pubertal changes, acceleration of growth velocity and rapid bone maturation that often result in reduced adult height. Onset of pubertal signs before the age of 8 years in girls and 9 years in boys should always be evaluated carefully. The main principles of therapy are to stop the progression of secondary sex characteristics and menses (in girls), to increase final adult height, to promote psychosocial well-being, and to treat the underlying cause if

This report presents the case of a 7-year-old girl with gonadotrophin-independent precocious puberty treated with cetrorelix [gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist] after poor response to GnRH agonist therapy was observed in the endocrinology outpatient clinic. Uterine and ovarian morphology returned to within the normal prepubertal range after GnRH antagonist was injected subcutaneously. Vaginal bleeding stopped completely. The effects of GnRH antagonist treatment were comparable to those of GnRH agonist. The potential advantage of GnRH antagonists would be a clinically significan

BACKGROUND: The pineal lesion affecting melatonin is a rare cause of central precocious puberty by decreasing the inhibition of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Germ cell tumor secreting human chorionic gonadotropin is a rare cause of peripheral puberty.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 5.8-year-old male presented facial hair and phallic growth, deepened voice, and accelerated growth velocity for 6 months. The elevated human chorionic gonadotropin level with undetectable gonadotropin levels indicated peripheral precocious puberty. Brain imaging revealed a pineal mass and further pathology indicated t
