Public Health in Practice: Implementation of the CDC Lewis Public Health Scholars Programs.

The CDC John R. Lewis Undergraduate Public Health Scholars Program is a multi-institutional pathway initiative designed to prepare undergraduate and recently graduated students for future education and careers in public health through integrated didactic and experiential learning. Although program models vary by site in modality, duration, and curricular emphasis, all seven partner institutions include 4 pillar components: didactic instruction, experiential learning, research development and dissemination, and professional development. Since its launch in 2012, the program has expanded from fo

Unresolved mental health trauma: The languishing of public safety and public health professionals.

The collective awareness and acknowledgment of mental health challenges affecting all of us across our society is a trend that can inform targeted future interventions. Mental health conditions have only worsened during the past three years, secondary to the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. In the workplace, 67 percent of those surveyed reported at least one mental health symptom over the past year, demonstrating an increase from 59 percent in 2019.1 Recent findings approximate that first responders have a higher incidence (>30 percent) of developing mental health conditions, including depressi

The 'Court of Public Opinion:' Public Perceptions of Business Involvement in Human Rights Violations.

INTRODUCTION: Accessing care is challenging for adults with chronic conditions. The challenge may be intensified for individuals needing to travel long distances to receive medical care. Transportation difficulties are associated with poor medication adherence and delayed or missed care. This study investigated the relationship between those traveling greater distances for medical care and their utilization of programs to prevent and/or manage their health problems. It was hypothesized that those traveling longer distances for medical care attended greater chronic disease management programs.

Year-Long Undergraduate Cell Biology-Based Data-Driven Literature Review Research Experiences That Successfully Culminate in Peer-Reviewed Publications.

During the COVID pandemic, not only were the apprenticeship-style research opportunities limited but course-linked laboratories transitioned to using online components. Moreover, laboratory research experiences for undergraduates can be associated with high costs and restricted space availability. To tackle these challenges and to broadly engage students in research to support them in an array of career paths, efforts were made to develop a data-driven literature review research experience that begins as a CURE in a high-enrollment Cell Biology course (first phase) and continues through two ad

Enabling remuneration for patient authors of company-sponsored publications: approaches and case study examples aligned with Good Publication practice.

Patient authors have been increasingly included on company-sponsored research publications, contributing a unique and needed expertise. Patients are routinely and rightfully remunerated for their contributions to advisory boards and non-authorship publication activities, such as peer review. However, the remuneration of patients for authorship activities has remained inconsistent and even contentious. Here, a working group of Good Publication Practice (GPP) steering committee members, patients and patient involvement and engagement experts, and industry partners present six commonly described …

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to characterize the contemporary landscape of peritoneal dialysis (PD) research published between 2016 and 2025 using PubMed-indexed publications. METHODS: This bibliometric and text-mining study analyzed publications related to PD indexed in PubMed from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2025. Author keywords were standardized using text normalization. Abstracts were preprocessed using tokenization, stop-word removal, and term normalization to improve topic-modeling performance. Topic modeling was then applied to the processed abstracts to identify latent research …

Top-Cited Articles on Dysphagia and Cognitive Impairment: A Scopus-Based Bibliometric Analysis of Publications Retrieved Through October 2025.

Deglutition disorders and cognitive impairment co-occur frequently in older adults and in patients with neurodegenerative or cerebrovascular disease, yet the intellectual structure and collaborative patterns at this clinical interface have not been mapped. We performed a bibliometric analysis, with scoping-review-style charting, of publications indexed in the Scopus database through the search date of 10 October 2025; we retrieved 1,190 records and retained the 100 most-cited articles for in-depth analysis. Because the most recent publications (2023-2025) have not yet accrued sufficient citati…

BACKGROUND: In 2016/17, the CATALISE Consortium published the results of a multinational and multidisciplinary Delphi consensus study, representing agreement among professionals about the definition and process of identification of children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) (Bishop et al., 2016, 2017). Assistive technologies in knee arthroplasty: fashion or evolution? Rate of publications and national registries prove the Scott Parabola wrong.

PURPOSE: Most opponents of assistive technologies in orthopedic surgery consider them as a marketing ruse or fashion. Our hypothesis was that many innovations in modern knee arthroplasty are not following the Scott Parabola. This parabola represents the visual curve of a procedure or therapy showing great promise at the beginning, becoming the standard treatment after reports of encouraging results, only to fall into disuse due to adverse outcome reports. This study aimed to assess the interest in these assistive technologies by (1) their number of publications/year and (2) their actual surgic…
