INTRODUCTION: Rib fractures are common injuries in trauma patients that often heal without intervention. Infrequently, symptomatic rib fracture nonunions are a complication after rib fractures. There is a paucity of literature on the surgical treatment of rib fracture nonunion. The purpose of this study was to describe the efficacy of rib fracture nonunion operative fixation with particular focus on surgical technique, healing rates, and complications.

We describe a case of osteomyelitis of the rib caused by methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus. The patient presented with a subtle, indolent course leading to a suspected 2-year delay in diagnosis. This case highlights that the diagnosis of rib osteomyelitis, which can readily mimic other diagnoses, such as costochondritis, intraabdominal infections, pneumonia, or malignancies warrants a high index of suspicion. Albeit rare, pediatricians should be aware of the possibility of rib osteomyelitis in healthy children to help ensure a prompt diagnosis and appropriate, timely management.

Establishing the cause of unilateral leg pain is difficult in the settings of tibial diaphyseal sclerosis. This patient, a 36-year-old woman presented with unilateral pretibial leg pain for past 7 months without history of trauma, infections, systemic or metabolic disease. An aneurysmal bone cyst is a very rare benign tumor of the ribs. It mainly involves the long bones and vertebrae, and requires histopathological examination for definitive diagnosis. BACKGROUND: Congenital anomalies have been found more often in children with cancer than in those without. Rib abnormalities (RAs) have been associated with childhood cancer; however, studies have differed in the type of RAs and cancers implicated.
METHODS: Rib abnormalities were assessed predominantly by X-ray in a hospital-based case-control study.

Penetrating or stab injuries of the chest are not uncommon and could be accidental, suicidal or homicidal. However, the present case discusses the importance of a careful examination of an unusual presentation in a motor vehicle accident. The case presented with haemopericardium and haemothorax due to penetrating rib injury to the heart, subsequent to blunt force trauma on the posterior chest wall. This case is highlighted, so that it becomes a necessary tool for the forensic experts to have an unprejudiced approach at autopsy and come to a reasonable conclusion.
