Native patellar tendon injuries are seen in younger patients compared to quadriceps tendon ruptures. Up to a third of the patients may have local (antecedent tendinopathy and cortisone injections) or systemic risk factors (obesity, diabetes, hyperparathyroidism, chronic renal failure, fluoroquinolone or statin use) of injury, these are more frequent in bilateral disruptions. We report the case of a 28-year-old male admitted to the emergency department for generalized seizure. A brain computed tomography (CT) revealed a ruptured dermoid cyst of the supra-tentorial stage (multiple drop-shaped fat structures were found in the subarachnoid space, basal cisterns and in ventricular system). An additional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was conducted to confirm the CT findings.

We report the case of a 25-year-old man who suffered a severe trauma with a complete rupture and separation of the right main bronchus. The patient presented on the scene with respiratory distress and severe hypoxemia. CASE: A macrosomic neonate was born at term after uneventful pregnancy. On the basis of diminished uterine contractions and arrest of descent, the head was delivered by using obstetric forceps. Rupture of the patellar tendon is a relatively infrequent, yet disabling, injury, which is most commonly seen in patients less than 40 years of age. It tends to occur during athletic activities when a violent contraction of the quadriceps muscle group is resisted by the flexed knee. Rectal prolapse is not a common surgical disorder. The complication reported here, of evisceration of small bowel through a prolapsed rectum, is extremely rare and is the first case reported in the West Indies. Some of the features of rectal prolapse are described, and the surgical management of this particular complication is discussed.

Forty one cardiac rupture complicating acute myocardial infarction (AMI) were studied in a ten-year period. The anterior AMIs are most likely to be observed with ruptures. The interval from the onset of AMI to the clinical detection of rupture was short (acute period). Some factors such as physical work in the acute period and transmural infarctions strongly infiltrated with leukocytes cause a higher frequency of rupture. Diabetes and hypertension might be predisposing factors.

Three girls and 4 boys with the final diagnosis of ruptured appendicitis underwent 19 sonographic studies, 5 before any therapy was instituted and 14 follow-up studies. Four abscesses identified before treatment and 2 seen postoperatively were ovoid, irregularly marginated, and contained low-amplitude echoes. Rupture of the uterus is an uncommon obstetric emergency that usually occurs after 36 weeks gestation in a woman with a previous cesarean section. Complete rupture of the uterus with extrusion of the fetus into the peritoneal cavity is associated with high fetal mortality and with hypovolemic shock in the mother. Herein we review our 6-year experience with operative and non-operative treatment of bladder ruptures. Many ruptured bladders with extraperitoneal and intraperitoneal extravasation of urine can be treated without an operation and with less patient morbidity.
