Myeloid sarcoma is a rare extramedullary malignant tumor, which is often accompanied by the development of systemic myeloid disease at various sites. The involvement of the central nervous system is uncommon and spinal cord compression is particularly rare. In November 2012, a 27-year-old male presented with a paroxysmal headache, accompanied by nausea and vomiting, which had persisted for one year, and eyesight deterioration that had been apparent for five months. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) indicated a space-occupying disorder, a craniotomy to resect the brain tumor was undertaken, the

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma is an extramedullary manifestation of haematologic malignancy, most commonly acute myeloid leukemia (AML), which can cause neurological symptoms.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 45-year-old male with a history of AML presented with a lumbosacral nerve root entrapment syndrome followed by cauda equina compression, but without systemic signs of AML recurrence. MRI showed a mass compressing the spinal cord at level L5-S2. After surgically removing the tumour pathologic examination yielded a myeloid sarcoma. Combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy followed. Five months later t

The patient was a 7-year-old boy admitted with facial edema. Ultrasound indicated moderate pericardial effusion and pleural effusion. Contrast-enhanced chest computed tomography showed indistinct mediastinal structures with mild-to-moderate enhancement, suggestive of a mediastinal space-occupying lesion. Further evaluation with whole-body PET-CT, pathological biopsy of the mediastinal lesion, cytological examination of pleural and pericardial effusions, and immunohistochemistry led to the final diagnosis of isolated myeloid sarcoma. Pathological examination is the gold standard for clinical di

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary tumor formed by the abnormal proliferation of immature myeloid cells. It can occur concurrently with or secondary to various myeloid neoplasms, most commonly acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Cervical involvement is extremely rare, and its clinical presentation often mimics that of primary gynecologic malignancies, typically manifesting as vaginal bleeding, a palpable cervical mass, or cervical enlargement.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 67-year-old woman with a history of AML who had received multiple lines of chemotherapy and

UNLABELLED: Myeloid sarcoma, an aggressive extramedullary subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), occurs in approximately 20% of patients and remains strikingly understudied in large-scale genomic and multiomic investigations. The key drivers of its tumor evolution are largely unknown; timely detection in asymptomatic patients poses a clinical challenge, and effective treatment options are limited, as patients are often excluded from clinical trials, rendering it a largely neglected disease entity. In this study, we demonstrate that myeloid sarcoma evolves from medullary AML but exhibits dist

Background Myeloid sarcoma, also called granulocytic sarcoma, extramedullary myeloid tumor, or chloroma, is a manifestation of a myeloid neoplasm. These tumors can develop in various anatomical sites, including the central nervous system, presenting as an extra-axial tumor affecting the meninges or the ependyma. Diagnosis is challenging due to its resemblance to other intracranial tumors such as meningiomas. Case Description We present the case of a 17-year-old male with intermittent left frontotemporal headache, diplopia during horizontal gaze, and proptosis of the left eye. During the imagin

An extramedullary myeloid tumor or chloroma is an infrequent manifestation of a myeloid neoplasm. It is considered an equivalent to an acute myeloid leukemia. It is confirmed through biopsy, where infiltrating neoplastic myeloid cells distort the parenchyma. A total of twenty-nine cases were diagnosed as MS between 198 and 2023. Upon re-evaluation, only fourteen cases fulfilled the criteria for MS. The most common differential diagnosis were lymphomas, leukemic infiltration, and extramedullary hematopoiesis. Few were isolated cases; the rest were in the context of progression of a myeloid neop

Myeloid sarcoma is a rare clinical entity that presents as an isolated proliferation of leukemic cells, concurrently with or at relapse of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes/neoplasms (MDS), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), and myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN). Myeloid sarcoma disrupts the normal architecture of its surrounding tissues. When it forms in long bones, it can cause their pathological fracture. We recently experienced a rare case of MDS presenting with myeloid sarcoma in the femur that eventually resulted in its pathological fracture. Detailed chromosomal analy

A female patient in her mid-70s, with a history of diverticulosis, presented with a 2-month history of severe diarrhea, left lower quadrant abdominal pain, decreased appetite, and fever. She was treated for diverticulitis, but did not improve. Subsequent workup revealed leukocytosis and circulating myeloblasts on a peripheral blood smear. Bone marrow evaluation and flow cytometry confirmed the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. Abdominal computed tomography and sigmoidoscopy were performed for her persistent diarrhea. While both failed to show an obvious mass or anatomical abnormality, patho

Myeloid sarcoma is a rare clinical entity, characterised by the extramedullary presence of myeloblasts. It can occur de novo or signify disease recurrence. Involvement of the female reproductive tract is uncommon, with most cases involving the uterine corpus or ovary. Patients with non-leukaemic myeloid sarcoma are treated with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) regimens, but the optimal therapy is unclear due to the relative rarity of the condition and lack of clinical trial data. We present an unusual case of myeloid sarcoma of the uterine cervix diagnosed incidentally in a patient with cervical-

BACKGROUND: Myeloid Sarcoma (MS) are tumors containing myeloid blasts occurring in a location other than the bone marrow, including lymph nodes, skin, and soft tissues. MS presenting as polyserositis however is very rare, with only a few cases in the literature.
CASE REPORT: A 20-year-old male presented with cough, shortness of breath and was found to have left upper lobe consolidation, left pleural effusion, pericardial effusion, and a large anterior mediastinal mass. A transthoracic echocardiogram showed pericardial effusion with tamponade physiology. He underwent emergent pericardiocentesi

We performed a retrospective study describing the characteristics of myeloid sarcoma (MS) and evaluated the outcome of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in patients with MS. There were 27 patients with de novo isolated MS, 34 with de novo leukemic MS and 13 with secondary leukemic MS in our study. Sixty-three patients received induction chemotherapy. Following induction therapy, 35 patients underwent HSCT, including 10 autogenous HSCT (auto-HSCT) and 25 allogeneic HSCT (allo-HSCT) cases. Compared with intensive chemotherapy only as consolidation treatment, HSCT (auto-/allo-HSCT) s

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma (MS), also known as chloroma, is an extramedullary manifestation of malignant primitive myeloid cells. Previously, only small studies investigated clinical and imaging features of MS. The purpose of this study was to elucidate clinical and imaging features of MS based upon a multicenter patient sample.
METHODS: Patient records of radiological databases of 4 German university hospitals were retrospectively screened for MS in the time period 01/2001 and 06/2019. Overall, 151 cases/76 females (50.3%) with a mean age of 55.5 ± 15.1 years and 183 histopathological confi
